Perhaps you may wish to revisite Armand Denis´account of his African experiences, I believe the book´s title was "Unforgettable Safaris". He was a cinematographer who saw first hand the hunt of several gorillas by tribesmen in the Congo, if I remember well.

1963 but the original article depicting Mr. Delano's hunt was somewhat earlier. I kept it for decades but can't find it now. ![]()

I have a book in my collection titled, Gorilla Hunter, by Fred Merfield with Harry Miller print 1956 To be honest i've never read it, but flipping through it there are some great photos of gorilla that have been taken and skimming a few pages it talks about hunting and the conditions endured, including indigenous poulation. maybe a good place to start, i think i got this off ebay? I've got that book as well and didn't read it at first as I took one look at the pics of Fred and thought he'd be the typical bumbling, arrogant twit of the time......but I was very mistaken...... it's a great read. ![]()

"Gorillas Were My Neighbors" by Fred G. Merfield 1956 - I found this book more interesting as a rare period piece than a hunting account (very little hunting) but it jumped up few notches with his association with Maj. Powell Cotton and much of the text coincides well with Congo exhibition photos at the PC Museum in Kent. Definitely a worthwhile read, imho.
