I started a survey over on the big bore forum and would be very much like to see opinions by the serious DG hunters over on this forum.

There has been a lot written in the past on feeding problems for DG hunting with cartridges that had a rebated rim. IE. Various 425 and 500 ctgs.

Some remain popular today and there are even a few new wildcat designs with significantly rebated rims. In some cases a single stack mag has been used to reduce problems at expense of magazine capacity.

If you have a minute, perhaps click a button or elaborate on where do you all stand?

In my first two years as a ph I used my grandfathers .425 a beautiful old gun I fired about 2-300 rounds with tht gun and never had a feed or extraction issue . Ammo was very hard to com by in those days and I had some mad for me the bullets were barnes in the days when they had a dimple on the front of their solids and the cases were .404 cases that had the rims machined down ... It was a beautiful old gun and fun to shoot if only ammo had ben easier to get I would have used it for longer.

I'll let you know, when I return from Zim, next year how my westley richards 425 works in the field. African Hunter, who posts here has quite a bit of field experience with a 425wr

My.375 RUM is a 0.008" rebated rim cartridge. It's a Remington 700 SS BDL that I custom stocked. I've taken it to Africa twice, shooting 207 gr and 300 gr Barnes TSX handloads, taking 18 animals, including Buffalo in Zimbabwe. Multiple no-no's according to some who post here, but the rifle, cartridge, and bullets worked great in all cases, and I have never had a feeding problem.

I too will be spending quite a bit of time in Zim and Moz with the WESTLEY.
Hopefully, this time with bolt and ammo. Roll Eyes
