As in will it get through various customs/imports.

7 shot detach mag action handling the 505 gibbs case size.Assume smaller scope, non-fluted barrel, and more hunt friendly synthetic stock

You have to shoot it, too, Karl. I know my shoulder would not want the recoil.

Actually, no the pertinent question is if I can.

Why I would want to is like why use a 4 bore, why own a ferrari, why would any of us want to shoot big game in the first place etc etc-you know the schtick guys.

Do we really have to do it all over ?

Can't you just let me ask my weird question and go on my way Wink

Looks like a bolt action rifle to me. Not my particular cup of meat, but a bolt action nonetheless.

Last time I checked, bolt actions could be imported into any African country that has a hunting season.

1600 yards. The owner of this one says it targets shoots to a mile Wink

Thanks for the replies on the legalities Mike et al.

The lawton above is clunky as hell with its bolt handle and general weight obviously. Some of the Stillers and Surgeon actions etc can shave down into quite functional bigbores. Not the cup of tea of african purists and CRF guys of course.

If you are thinking about legalities, it probably matters what the exact model is and caliber it is, and depends on what country it is being brought in to.

If it is a sniper rifle in a sniper caliber some of the countries might call it a weapon of war. I think the Chey-Tac's or Lapua Mag might fall in that category.

If its a custom in a hunting caliber, Mike would be right, but "It's Africa" still would apply.

JD yep its Chey-tac setup, standard CT .75" bolt and bottom metal with 4.5" long mag box, but a necked down 375 in this case. Real blowtorch.

Your 416/505 sounds like a better idea for a cartridge. Also keep these guys in mind for ULD softpoints http://www.rmbullets.com/page9.html

CR good point, that is what I was wondering about.

I have taken my "Bad Boy VIII" into Africa three times without a problem. This is a bolt rifle with an 8 round magazine. My personal one is a 375 H&H but I can supply them in 416 Rem, 458 Lott, or similar.

have fun carring that around you can do what you want but in heavy brush and you gotta get a shot off in 3-4sec after walking 2-3 clicks in 80-90'Degrees.
GREAT FOR DASSIES AT 500+ yds

A person a lot older and wiser than me said that if you want your teeth fixed son go to a dentists. A plumber can't help you.

That is a long range snipers rifle desgned to be used from the prone position. If your P/H is happy for you to take it then feel free. There are better rifles for hunting, and hunting involves more than just shooting. (unless you plan to never get off the truck).
