Folks,

I'll be leaving on 30 Aug for a couple of weeks with Bahati Safaris out on the Zambezi delta in Mozambique. I'll be taking a couple of clients along who are safari novices so I'm expecting them to have a super time. The area is a great spot for the pigmy antelope that really interest me as well as some highly prized antelope such as sable and nyala. More common game is abundant and of course the Delta is loaded with buffalo.

Once my clients are on their way back to Wyoming Sadie and I are off to fish a couple of local rivers and the mighty Zambezi. Following the fishing Johan Srasheim our host has generously agreed to fly us to Maun, Botswana where we will meet another client and spend a few days hunting Kalahari game with Clive Eaton's Tholo Safaris. I'll make a full report on my return.

I've hunted Mozambique and Botswana before but never in these areas and both Sadie and I are really looking forward to the whole adventure.

So from 30 Aug until 1 October contact Adam adam@safaritrackers.com or 1-210-698-0077 with any inquiries that need immediate attention. If it can wait send me an e-mail and I'll answer as soon as I return.

Mark

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Good hunting Mark!

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Guys,

I appreciate the well wishes. THX!

Red duiker, suni and blue duiker are supposed to be excellent in Coutada 10. I'm also going to hold out for very big nyala and waterbuck which are exceptional there. I've shot them before so I can be very selective. Sadie wants another hippo and croc so we'll spend some times on those also. I'm not sure if a buffalo is on the menu or not but my last clients there earlier in the month shot 41" and saw many many good bulls. I know this is more than you wanted to know but I'm kind of excited about this and writing helps me wear some of the nervous energy off.

I'm the Botswana client meeting Mark and Sadie next month, and I'm counting the days. September 17 departure. This will be my second hunting trip to Africa, not counting the photo safari to the Okavango in 2000.

On license? Eland, kudu, gemsbok, wildebeeste, assorted tales and lies of adventure and danger, endless discussions of calibers and ballistics, debates over movies and books, too much scotch, and not nearly enough time in Africa for me!!! Oh goody, goody, goody, goody.
