Laughable to say the least. Yesterday, our daily infection cases was at 2465 for the day. England sitting at 40,000 per day for the past 3 weeks. Even the Flu vaccine changes yearly because of variants.

I wouldn't write this off to soon. Depending on the particulars of this variant of the virus, both virulence and ease of transmission, this could throw the show season for a loop. Not to mention hunting in western and central Africa.

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

+1

Cracked oil 10 percent and all travel stocks are in the dumpster.

This could be terrible for African hunting and first steps these days is to make travel miserable.

Let’s hope this variant is covered by mRNA vaccines.

mRNA only works on viruses made by the Chinks.

African Witch Doctors creations are immune to it! clap

My family physician told me about this variant last week and told me we should get a booster (not Pfizer) and said even though CDC is not reporting, covid cases are increasing around airline hub cities (Atlanta, DFW, Seattle, New York, etc) due to increased international flights and some expect a spike around mid-December. Not good news for upcoming conventions. I suspect the US will follow suit.

Would be cool to a moderna booster even if one has had Pfizer vaccines. Moderna is a much better vaccine - Pfizer is very good too. Moderna is just better,

I have plans to go to Switzerland next month.

In restaurants they require one to have their vaccination app to eat indoors.

They accept vaccinations from other countries, and one has to enter the details to get accepted in the Swiss app.

Got mine approved today, and the approval lasts for o e year since my second vaccine.

It ain’t the vaccine or the new variant in the short term

You simply won’t be able to get on a plane from southern Africa .

Us restricts travel from South Africa and 7 other countries.

Glad all this is happening at end of crappy hunting season.

Lets hope mrna vaccine cover or else it will be 100-120 days before pfizer or moderna will make a special dose that will have to also go thru a approval process.

Just read that Biden is limiting travel from 8 African Countries, due to new Covid variant. That certainly ought to screw the DSC and SCI shows royally.

Luckily the hunting season is nearly over in southern Africa, but if this lasts it will make it tough for operators to come to the shows in the US.
On paper this variant looks nasty, but it actually isn't clear if it's more transmissible, better in evading immunity or more deadly. It's unlikely it's all three, and it's also very hard to evade immunity AND be more infectious. It would mean the spike protein is altered in such a way the antibodies don't recognize it anymore, and at the same time it's attaches better to the ACE receptor to get into cells.

And the way I understand MRNA vaxxes to work is they provide a single protein profile for our bodies to reproduce - not the wider variety from a normal vaccine or having already had it.

Our vaunted scientists come up with a more nuanced understanding of all this besides swinging the same hammer at it...

Until I hear that it's more serious for a person under 70 years of age with no co-morbidity conditions than a mild case of the flu, it's hard for me to worry about it.

The trouble is, the media typically just report transmissibility and infection numbers.

You have to dig to bedrock to get facts on mortality, but if you do, you can find them.

The survival rate for people infected with COVID since the pandemic began is over 99%.

It is idiotic to shut down the world economy based on such numbers.

Possibly. The other issue is getting a visa when required new variant or not.

I have had some tell me they cannot afford to come .

I assume a lot of folks from Africa that announced they were coming were already in possession of a travel visa considering it’s only six weeks out. But it’s a moot point now with a travel ban.

Not so sure about that…I had correspondence with outfitters in SA and Zim last week about this very thing. None had visa’s but were working on it thru different services or associations. As you stated, pretty much a moot point now. And to Larry’s point, I’ve heard from more than one that they simply can’t afford the expense of a protracted trip to the US. Been a very hard time for many of our outfitter friends, worldwide.

Next two weeks we will have a very good idea on this variant and the mrna vaccines.

Already mrna, bnxt and nvax have said they will have booster IF Needed in 60-100 days.

We will find out soon where this stands. Will be crappy for Southern Africa as first response is to simply freeze travel. The lesson learned from Delta variant.

Sucks for hunting shows and hunting business. Rest of the world will chug along.

We will find out soon how good the mrna and bnxt/pfizer shots are. Moderna shot to date has been a rockstar.

THIS is bad news for us...most of us had A ok season trying to make up for 2020...I must say our CLIENTS were great and work with us thru this bullshit, however these new restrictions will kill us... we need to travel and start marketing again. my one and only question is...will this happen with every new mutation?? my understanding is that viruses mutate?? will we ever be normal again our will our idiot governments take total control over our lives now??? funny how 2 months ago all of this was predicted almost to the date... the 4th wave...

Absolute killer for us! On the positive side, at least this did not happen early / mid-season and while we may lose the shows let's hope like hell we have some sort of solution for the 2022 season to go ahead. The alternative does not even warrant thinking about!!!

This better be manageable by existing mrna vaccines or we are in for a wild ride

There is a lot more of this new covid variant in South Africa than the reported data shows. How else do you get such massive infection of an already tested group.

“One in 10 passengers aboard two flights that landed in the Netherlands from South Africa tested positive for Covid-19. Health authorities said they would research whether the results showed the Omicron variant.“ according to wsj.

This is what is crazy - all passengers were requested to be tested to get onboard the flight.

“You must show a negative COVID-19 test result if you are travelling to or returning to the Netherlands from outside the EU/Schengen or a COVID-19 risk area within the EU/Schengen. This requirement applies to everyone aged 12 or over. “

Nothing makes sense - how do you have 10 percent of the flight covid positive for a group just tested and shown to be covid negative to board the flight.

Even if everyone got a fake covid test. Having a sample size of 600 people with 10 percent covid positive would not be seen in the worst earlier outbreaks. There might be a ton of covid floating around South Africa.
