The Tsetse fly thread prompts my asking of those that have hunted the Niassa.....how are the bugs including Tsetse's. We'll be going next June.

Thanks
Jim

There are definitely a healthy number of tsetses , june is winter and so you shouldnt have much other bugs , do take a headnet though as there are a lot of mopane flies in some areas of the woodland

hope that this helps

Whilst not a member of AR, this Moz chap is quite happy with his plastic bag Tsetse net. Note he did not cut a hole to breath from..

Jim, on a side note, did you have any mopane fly/tsetse fly problems on your Zambia hunt?

OIn my 2 trips, I have had minimal problems with them. I have heard some areas to the west of us are as bad as anywhere in Africa. I take a headnet for the mopane flies as Ivan said. They can really be a pain during lunch, and we have been on a few stalks where they were miserable. For the most part, the insects have not been much of an issue for us.

There were some Tsetse's but not overwhelming. I did reat to their bite more there than on a previous late season trip to Zambia for some reason. Has one bite on my arm that didn't settle down until I used a high dose steroid cream for almost a month. Never seen a Mopane fly.
