You only need one DVD and one book. The DVD is Hunting the African Elephant The Complete Guide by Buzz Charlton. The book is Ndlovu by Richard Harland. Watch the DVD and read the book and you will be well prepared.

+1, Mike has nailed it.
Kambaku by Harry Manners is not an educational or how to book by any means but captures the romance of elephant hunting in a bygone era in a way which I found attractive and entertaining. It certainly inspired me to go elephant hunting which made the mentioned media necessary!

If you absolutely felt you needed two books and not one, then get Mahohboh by Ron Thomson too.

Its from SA and shipping is more than the book. I can't get the currency convert to change on the roland ward sight I sent them an email. Just want to make sure of the price before I buy. Shipping will be 500 ZAR so total will be around $100 if I'm figuring correctly

The three references above are the best, required viewing and reading.
I would also suggest "African Rifles and Cartridges" by John Taylor, and "Wanderings of an Elephant Hunter" by WDM Bell. These are historical readings, but should help you gain perspective, plus they are a hell of a lot of fun.

Bokhunter,

Sounds like a book I need. I don't speak or read German, but I could get my son to read it to me. Sounds like some good time together.

I thought that Richard Harland's book(Ndlovu) was great, but Ron Thomson's book(Mahohboh) is far, far better as a primer for an elephant hunt.

If you read and study Thomson's book you will be ready for the hunt.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

No there is not. Maybe ebay etc. I have received quite a few things from SA so I am not afraid to get it from Rowland Ward but the shipping is kinda pricy. Surprised safari press does not carry it. I did find a used copy of mahohboh signed limited first edition for a little more than what it would cost to get a second edition shipped over. These books are tough to find!

Well my first "find" has arrived. Mahohboh 1st edition signed 1155 out of 2500. New condition. Man that was a great find on Amazon!

These books are a little scarce. Looks like I will have to get the other shipped over from SA
