Lion attack forces Nyimba school to adjust timetable

CHIEFTAINESS Mwape of the Nsenga people in Nyimba district has asked authorities at Chifukuzi Community School to adjust their timetable to start at 09:00 hours instead of the 07:00 hours in light of lions that are terrorising the area.
In an interview on Monday, chieftainess Mwape who visited the family of Lembani Daka who was attacked and eaten by a lion last week, said she advised the local people to be security conscious.
She said some pupils cover distances of about seven kilometres to the school.
"After I learnt about this during my meeting with the people, I spoke to the headmaster at the community school and he told me that they start lessons at 07:00 hours. We agreed with the headman, headmaster and the community that starting from Wednesday (today), the pupils should be starting lessons  at 09:00 hours," chieftainess Mwape said.
She said she also urged the local people to dialogue with Zambia Wildlife Authority on issues of animal attacks.
"I hear our ZAWA park ranger had a tough time when this issue occurred. So I told them that the issues could be resolved through dialogue and not the way they behaved," chieftainess Mwape said.
The local people were hesitant to take part in burying Daka's remains.
According to Nyimba district commissioner George Phiri, Daka was attacked around 02:00 hours last Friday, leaving only his head, a leg and hand.
Phiri said ZAWA officers had since been deployed in the area to control the lions.

Man eating is quite a common occurrence in this region.

They 2 males have now moved into some villages near my old haunt Munyamadzi and I have been asked if I can help deal with them.

The Lions killed another person last night so I am off for a few days.
