I made it to the range the other day and while I was doing OK at hitting the 100 yd. target with my Husqvarna in 9.3x62 I just couldn't get my mojo right for my upcoming South African PG safari in May.

Maybe I'll go watch The Ghost and the Darkness and see if that gets me in the mood.

Wear your safari clothes, preferably short sleeved shirt, shorts, and sandals! It gives the ambiance to get you in the mood.
Then run home and have some Amarula to warm up.

Ha! What's mojo in the snow? Snowjo?

BTW, when I watch that movie, I root for the lions to kill Michael Douglas.

I'll see your Minnesnowta and raised you the frozen Beaufort Sea in February. It was 93 below windchill when I took this shot.

Hell you deserve credit for hitting the range in this weather. Africa spoiled me, I like hunting in warm weather now. I gave up deer season in PA. Now I go down to SC in October. Three days deer hunting in shirtsleeves than down to Hilton Head Island for a few days fishing. The only winter rifle shooting I do is with my 22LR at the indoor pistol range. Go ahead, call me a wimp, but while you are freezing in your tree stand I'm nice and warm.

Now that is COLD.

You win, but at least you get to hunt bear, moose, caribou, etc.

Hard to believe some guys actually work outside in that crap. It was severe clear with no wind the next day and a balmy 35 below without wind.

I took the shot while driving between two exploration rigs on an ice road in 2005. Not trying to hijack the thread but I thought you guys might get a kick out of the sign that's on every exit door from camp.

IMHO you can't actually hijack a humorous thread. And you're not going to catch me out in -93 windchill, especially not out at the range. Kewl pictures. thumb

Yeah, Rick, but it took the lion way too long to finally chomp Douglas!

As a result, I had to sit through way too much of his so-called "performance."

That movie would have been so much better if only Douglas's character had been a bit part, or at least a bitten part sooner (if you'll pardon the puns)!

But I know what you mean about the snow. We had another couple of inches last night and this morning, and more is on the way. thumbdown

BTW, I like the looks of that rifle in your photo. What is it?

In 2007 when I shot my Impala we had over 2 inches of snow on the ground in South Africa.
You never know what you'll find - so practice even in snow.
A bad day shooting is better then a good day at work.

Here in South Dakota, my range has a six foot drift across it! I just got back from our northern Wisconsin cabin, and used the range there to shoot trial loads for my 416. The temp was in the 30's. and only about 18 inches of snow I could mostly walk on top of. Jeez, I wish spring would come! Zimbabwe in four months, and I can't shoot!

Our rifle range is in a shaded area that holds snow longer than most areas and seems ten degrees cooler in the summer. I don't really mind the snow but it didn't seem right to have to brush 3" of it off the bench to sight in for Africa. Smiler
That rifle is one of the Husqvarna Model 146 rifles that was originally a 9.3x57. There was a thread a while back about a poor man's Obendorf rifle and my wife made sure one found a good home. Wink The rifle then made a trip to have the chamber reamed out to 9.3x62, the sight filed 0.50" shorter and I refinished the stock. Everyone that shoots it is amazed at how good it feels and how little recoil there is. It's earned a spot in the gun case headed to South Africa this May. My wife and I are doing an iron sight only safari. Smiler
