Good evening,

I just received word from Analise that her father, Louis Afton, of Afton House in Johannesburg, South Africa passed away a couple of days ago. Many of you and myself included have stayed at the Afton House while traveling to a safari destination. Louis was great in sorting out travel difficulties and baggage issues. He was in poor health for the last couple of years with cancer.

RIP Louis. Many are those who passed through his door on their way to adventure.

Louis was a great friend to a lot of us that traveled to southern Africa. He was always available to care for his guests needs. All of my hunting peer group have shared his hospitality. May God bless and keep you Louis!

Now that's not the kind of news I like to see. Louis was a brick, solid and dependable. Afton House was always the go-to place for hunters staying in Jo'berg and while the staff and his family were vital, it was Louis that sat at the "buck stops here" desk. RIP Louis.

When I saw the title of this post I winced. Many of us knew the battle Louis was waging and as such I feared the worst. Sorry I was right.

Godspeed Louis; and deepest condolences to all our friends at Afton House.

I do hope that they play some of Louis' favorite Afrikaans Cowboy music at his funeral. As some of you know, he was very fond of American Country Western Singer Jim Reeves, who subsequently learned Afrikaans and recorded a number of his songs in that language. Louis would always be playing it when he picked us up or dropped us off. I think that Louis was part cowboy at heart. RIP

My condolences to Annelise and all at Afton. They have always been very kind and dependable to me and my clients.

UEG, I never met Louis when I would over night at Afton or I would have brought him some photo's of the Jim Reeves museum and home. It was a historic home that was torn down last year to build a Home Depot (like we need another one in Nashville). The Union and Confederate troops went by it between Nashville and Gallatin during the civil war.
