All I am considering taking a shotgun for potential bird hunting while on Safari in June. What can I expect to pay for 12 guage shells?

Cost aside, take as much (or as little) as you are allowed in your 5 kg ammo limit per person. If you are traveling with a companion, you can usually get 3 boxes of shotshells even if still taking rifle ammo. It may not be enough if you are doing any extensive wingshooting, but the ammo quality and performance will be much better than what you can get locally. At least in my experience. Bill

They did average around $10+ per box, but with metal prices soaring, you might ask your PH ahead of time. Be prepared. If Egyptian or Spur-wing geese are on the menu, pack a good bit of #4 buckshot if you can. ______________________ RMEF Life Member SCI DRSS Chapuis 9,3/9,3 + 20/20 Simson 12/12/9,3 Zoli 7x57R/12 Kreighoff .470/.470 We band of 9,3ers! The Few. The Pissed. The Taxpayers.

I paid $10.00 a box. Too bulky and too heavy to pack in my opinion. They supplied Rio shells and I was not unhappy with the quality. Never worry about theory as long as the machinery does what it's supposed to do.

Problem I've found in Namibia is that gunshops seem to have plenty of heavier loads such as 35 grams, but few 1 oz. loads (28 grams). Guinea fowl and geese might merit the heavier loads, but not pigeon, francolin, sand grouse. Might get hold of your outfitter, ask that they order a flat of lighter loads from Rosenthals who have gotten Eleys for me from Cape Town but it takes two or three weeks... Regards
