I just saw a video on youtube of some middle eastern so called hunters chase down an eland in Tanzania by vehicle and then shot the poor bastard when it was exhausted. Truly disgusting. Don't know who the hunter was but it really offends me as a hunter that this guy would do this. I doubt there was a professional hunter involved.

Now if they were running on their own two feet after the eland,
got it exhausted and shot it from five feet that would be VALID!

Didn't see, and won't watch the video. Illegal to use a vehicle, or at least that's my impression.

I have not hunted Tanzania, but I am under the impression shooting from the truck or at a water source is illegal in TZ.

And do you not have to have a government game scout?

That video has been shown here before and I believe it was reported to the TZ game authority. What more can one do??

Yeah, even some Alaskan Inuits/Eskimos have been known to run polar bears to exhaustion with snowmobiles and then shoot them in the neck with a .223 remington.

I heard a story in hunting camp recently about how some hunters returning from a musk ox hunt chased a large male polar bear on snowmobiles for the fun of it and when the bear turned on them and charged, they fled on the snowmobiles.

As far as I know, humans are far-and-away the best long-distance runners, and can run for greater distances and longer time periods than any other species.

SURE, IF THEY ARE HIGHLY TRAINED MARATHON RUNNERS. and how many average hunters have that degree of training?????

I'd bet the average weekend 10k jogger could outrun any African antelope over distance.

Depends on how fast you mean by run.

A flat out run like a Marathon runner
or a fast jog, fully clothes like a soldier
doing one of the PT type tests (15km).

I think it's more about the antelope than the man. We are told that if we spook an antelope it will run "forever"; but I don't think that's actually the case.

They're just not used to running that far at a steady pace and after a relatively short distance (a few miles?) will tire and stop to rest ... and if pushed further will just stop and be approachable.

The question is: How far will an antelope run before stopping to rest? I don't think it's all that far but maybe some of the guys here who've been involved in game-capture know better.

I'd bet a hartebeast will run the farthest, though.

Yup, That was a disgusting Kudu hunt.

Having hunted with the Bushman, I found much about that video staged and sensational, even before the "kill shot" on the Kudu.

Someone shot that Kudu with a rifle and then staged it going down as if exhausted.

Disgusting. There is the BBC for you.

I know we all forget or do not like to think about it but so many of the old safari stories tell of horse back hunters chasing animals. I like to think we are more civilized today but that is not always the case

run only as far as they need to to get out of danger ?

Same as predators have evolved to either hunt
by stealth (tiger), a combo of stealth and speed over short distances )lion) or just outright speed over short distances (cheetah).

Agree... If someone is capable of running down a healthy animal, it is a remarkable feat. Also, the tracking ability to be able to follow the animal is just as remarkable.

Ive heard the same thing. A fit man man can outrun a fit horse, not sure of the science etc

Ive also been told that the san bushman wanting to get married/take a prtner would have to bring a live springbuck ram to the father of the bride as a dowry and show that he was worthy of looking after his daughter.

apparently would just jog after the herd for a few hrs and just slowly weed them out till he was after the one he wanted and would later just walk up to it.

animals are built for speed not long distance.
