I don't know if you guys have tried 5.11 Tactical and Blackwater clothing but it is really great.

My last safari I used stuff from Cabelas and the Namibian bush just tore me apart. I have been wearing a lot of 5.11 tactical stuff in thw warzone and at home, and really can't see me wearing jeans or regular hunting pants anymore. This stuff is too good, and if your in the right place you can buy the close out pants for $15-20 each.

It is probably just my gait, but I find the legs too baggy and they rub making noise when I walk. It would be nice if they would make a "slim" cut.

I have been wearing 511 clothing for several years.

I have worn their shirts and pants on all my Safaris, and I wear them around my place daily.

When I hunt in cooler, wetter weather, but not yet wool clothing weather I wear their Nylon shirts and pants.

In Africa their pants did not make to much noise for me, I have shot cape buff at 12 yards and a few elephants at 6 yards and less. Big Grin

In fact I am wearing 511 pants right now. With a Blaser T shirt of course. Wink

I have purchased 5.11 clothing through L.A. Police Gear. Recently they had some outstanding deals, among others, on their cargo pants (reduced prices) and when the two pair of pants arrived, they had also thrown in, for free, the following: two full leather belts(the ones that are reinforced in between the two layers of leather with a kevlar type material to stiffen them up for weapons carry), two wonderful and very useful tactical green bags with all kinds of pockets, a 5.11 hat,and a pair of knee pads. And, free shipping to boot!

I agree...well made and tough...but they are noisy. Noisy enough to notice when it counts. Mine were not 'baggy'--just comfy.

Nevertheless...Will probably wear them when I go back later this summer. Just be aware that they are a 'tactical' trouser and meant to take the abuse of crawling/kneeling. They wear like iron though.

Cheers.

I wish you could buy them in South Africa for that price...

They are out of my price bracket

I hunt with these

I tried some in 2008, but the rear pockets were VERY deep, apparently designed to carry AR mags. I didn't like the feeling of my wallet riding at the top of my leg. Have they changed this?

The slash pockets are the only reason to buy 5.11 pants, everything else I can get elsewhere. The old ones were better anyway, when it was Royal Robbins. I quit wearing them some years ago so I didn't look like I worked at a gun store.

I just got back from Iraq where I wore 511 clothing for 15 months. Since I was at some really ---forsaken places out in the boonies, wear was extremely rough. The clothing is still being worn now that I'm back. As to the noise, use of fabric softener makes them quiet, or maybe its just they are well broken in.

Ryan - Just curious. Is there something wrong with looking like you work in a gun store? I have lots of friends who work in gun stores and it never occured to me they looked bad!!

Noise has been the reason I haven't purchased and used these goods. Maybe the softener or extensive wear is the ticket?

Someone else, I think it's Woolrich , makes tactical pants with a wallet pocket inside the rear deep slash. It works pretty well. I usually get this stuff from Botach Tactical online. Their sale prices are very good.

It's an advantage being able to get them in non-camo for day to day wear, or hunting in a countey where camo is verbotten.

I don't want my look to be associated with firearms. I can carry all I want into non permissive environments because I don't look "tactical" and no one suspects the dude in designer jeans and merino wool is carrying a pair of handguns.

That's funny we were talking about that the other day. The cop/military/gunstore guy or wannabe image.

A friend of mine dresses like the guys on Two and Half Men. So while he thinks they are cool they don't fit his slacker image. He thinks that wearing 5.11 pants is an advertisement that you are concealed carrying.

I am a Wyoming hick, and I wear Wrangler's, Cinch Jeans or my 5.11 Tactical pants. The nice thing about my job is the 5.11 pants are nice enough looking that the Navy doesn't bitch about us not being professional while wearing them.

I wore by 5.11 Tactical in Namibia and I still wear them today, just careful where and how.
The bad guys know that cops wear them too! I only wear my 5.11 w/ my shirt untucked when out in public, they look just like anyother pant w/ cargo pockets.

Plus, they wear like iron.

I still have some I bought ten years ago.

They have the Royal Robbins tags in them.

I wore them on a varmint shoot in Utah with a friend of mine and his dad. Very comfortable! His dad had a border patrol hat on and when we walked into a little burger joint in a small town they asked us if we were there to round up and arrest all of the illegals! Big Grin
