I am writing with a somewhat unusual request – I am on the steering committee for the John Banovich ACE award (Award for Conservation Excellence) which is an award that has been created to recognize the extraordinary contributions made by the world’s leading conservationists and hopefully to become one of the most significant awards in the conservation arena.

there are quite a few similar award to this one out there but NONE of them have hunters interests at heart , hunters on their steering committees and pro hunting judging panel - John has gone to great lengths to ensure that the judges and the steering committee is a balance of folks -

The mission of ACE is to honor and appreciate a legacy of conservation through recognition of men and women who share their passion to conserve the great outdoors, (many of whom are unsung heroes) and have made extraordinary contributions to the sustainability of nature and wildlife. The Award will recognize a conservationist’s long-term commitment to making our planet a better place, and empower people in both local and international communities to advance wildlife conservation.

The first ACE Award will be presented at a premier black-tie awards ceremony during the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition February 14, 2018 at the Gaillard Center in Charleston, SC, where the First place winner will be awarded a $100,000 cash prize and a $5,000 Cabela’s gift certificate. Four finalists will receive a $5,000 Cabelas Gift Certificate and a $5,000 cash Prize.

So here’s my ask !!!

Please would you rack your brains and help encourage or nominate some of the unsung heroes of conservation ,i know that within this group there are folks who know intimately some of these kind of folks ... through this appeal we are hoping to cast an incredibly wide net that will give us the opportunity to highlight the work done by these individuals on the front line ..

If you know of worthy folks I would ask that you encourage them to please apply for consideration or alternatively nominate them yourself ..

I'd say, Ivan, that Ron Thomson deserves consideration for the award. He's rangered, hunted, and most recently written about the essence of modern wildlife conservation from the grass roots up to sustainable use.

I certainly think Mark Haldane should be up for consideration.

If you give me the award and stipend, I will pledge to return all of it to hunting's finest guides and PHs. Suggestions welcome after winning.... Wink

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.

I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.
