Saeed - How did you find out about this? It was supposed to be a clandestine operation by SCI to cause this ruckus. You must have insiders in SCI these days, huh? Wink Hope it all stays in Dallas. Most likely will as it's toooooo cold (as some weenies here say) in Reno for the flu virus to survive.

Those sniffels and coughs have killed four people in North Texas just this week! However I'm sure they bwere just candy asses is why it killed them. One 19 yr old boy lived three days after showing symptoms, and three lived four or five days! In the last four days this has been listed as an epidimic in all the lower 48 states.

The flu bug is nasty. Almost all of my coworkers have missed time or are currently missing time. The doctor told each of them they had to miss at least a week, etc. My poor secretary missed two weeks. Good luck in a bad bad flu season.

Someone must of caught it on a flight in and passed it around at the Friday night dinner. I attended all of the DSC banquets, walked the show Friday and Saturday, and worked at the registration desk and concierge booth and didn't catch anything.

I haven't taken the flu shot (my own stupidity?). However, Dr Mike gave me a shot of something Thursday and another shot of a different flavor on Friday. Could that have been what has kept me from catching the flu?

Definitely nothing to fool around with.

Over 30,000 people died in 2002-2003 in the US from a strain of Influenza A very similar to that with which we are dealing this season. My mother was just released from the hospital after suffering with the flu. Had she not received the vaccine - which prevents a lot and attenuates most of this year's strain - she would probably not have survived.

I wish it were swine flu - more communicable but far less deadly.

Stay away from people who have "cold" symptoms. If you have cold symptoms, stay away from those you love. If you've just developed "cold" symptoms, get a rapid flu test and if positive take Tamiflu immediately. It's only somewhat effective in reducing duration and severity if started within 48 hours of first symptoms.

Be smart - I'd like all of you to be around and posting for a long while to come.

Stay well,

Paul

This subject just rubs me raw. If you have any of the symptoms listed by CCMDoc just plain stay away! The problem that we have is that people just can't bring themselves to stay away when they're sick and they then spread it to the rest of us. If you're sick then stay home, or at the hotel, period. If you're coming to SCI, please be considerate to the rest of us who have had the flu shot, and are trying to avoid the flu because we frequent very old people or newborn babies and very young children, please.

The only reason this is being discussed on this thread is because so many of us just returned from Dallas.
There are people in all of the lower 48 suffering from this, so staying away from SCI or whatever is probably not feasable for all.
I was fine until I got home.
Who knew this was going to happen.
I know people who traveled from all over the world to sell their hunts & wares in Dallas, there was simply too much at stake to stay cooped up in a hotel room during the conv.
If your concern is great enough, then stay home youself, some of these folks are working sick & just trying to make a living. I have certainly had to do the same myself in the past.
Thankfully I can now stay home & avoid passing this on to others.
To those among us that are sick, get well soon!

Hooker seems to be the prime suspect, eh?
He is probably an asymptomatic carrier of Type A, H1N1 swine flu: "Hooker-One-N-One"

This heretofor unheard of phenomenon will surely soon be all over the medical literature.
A human reservoir for the virus, cohabiting with swine and thus keeping the virus going in both human and pig populations.

I had the flu shot in November.
It obviously did not cover the latest Hooker1N1 mutation.
I got the crud Sunday evening after show's end, on the way home. Thought I was near death for two days, coughing and blowing nose, achy all over, fever and chills.
I got better, but Mrs. RIP started getting sick on Monday, and by Tuesday was sicker than I have ever seen her.
She tested negative for flu by the nasal swab yesterday, outpatient visit, but that will probably miss 30% to 50% of cases,
by false negative rate, in good hands. Roll Eyes
She also had nausea and vomiting in addition to the respiratory crud. Seems to be getting a little better now.

Clinical diagnosis: Swine Flu, Hooker1N1, Type A influenza.

No deaths at my home yet.

For you that had congestion, watery eyes and sneezing. Mountain Cedar pollen was practically of the scale in Dallas.
I had a flu shot and have not experienced it but this mountain cedar is kicking my Claritin's ass.
I live in the Dallas area and it is still bad. If the flu did not get you, this is likely what you experienced.

Maybe last year's thread, but the swine flu is back this year again (2014) in the Intermountain West, as well as the Southwest (Nevada-Las Vegas) Just had a friend die from it in Utah and her funeral is Monday. Get your shots. For her, (very healthy and an exercise freak), it started out as a cold, went to a bad cold, and by the time she went to the emergency room to see what she needed to be treated for, she collapsed and was dead one week later. I know of another family in our area of Vegas with it. Not something to catch.

Hell of a deal to read all this.
I've had very runny clogged up sinus's the last three days.
Haven't been out of the house in over a week, had the flu shot in Nov. And didn't go to Dallas either.

What's the chance of catching this by "computer virus?

Here in town last I week I hear two died in less than five days, 58 in the hosp. Sounds mighty serious.

Hope everyone gets over it soon. Mine seems to be clearing up this evening.

I was not at DSC but was visiting the US for other purposes. A couple of my friends were a bit sick but we all had no choice but to get together at a couple of events we had planned for over a year.

Sure enough, I came back and between the travel stress, jet lag, and work stress upon return, the old immune system was probably depressed. I was then sick for about 10 days with the worst flu I have ever had. I am only 42 years old, but it would be easy to imagine an 80 year old not surviving what I had. Definitely nothing to mess around with. I rode it out and after basically ten days in bed the doc told me it had turned into bacterial bronchitis and sinus infection. Four days on antibiotics and I am finally about 90%.

I walked the show Friday, spent all day Saturday & Sunday in my hotel room, wiped out. Went to Beinfield Las Vegas show last week, same thing, walked show Saturday, spent yesterday in hotel room coughing. Took flu shot earlier this year. This has been my worst year for respiratory crud I can remember. A number of cases of "walking pneumonia" have been reported in our town.

RIGHT! only 52 mostly young healthy people have now died with this strain of H1N1 flu in Texas, 29 of them in Dallas alone, most who had the flu shots that didn't help!
