I am sure there are those that will find a way to be critical of this effort, but I for one am glad to see SCI hitting back. A very well done piece in my view. Also I see that John Jackson is now predicting the imminent lifting of the Zim ivory importation ban.

Just shows what we are up against

The level of abject ignorance about elephant hunting, especially among educated portions of the population (and I include lawyers in that category), is amazing.

"Aren't they endangered?"
"Aren't they almost extinct?"
"How could you kill something when there are so few left?"

And on and on come the questions if I am in mixed company and someone happens to know I hunt elephant and they ask about some trip or detail. The level of institutional misinformation about elephant, especially through major media outlets, is severe.

On the bright side, many people are relieved to learn that there is actually an overabundance of elephant throughout southern Africa, that hunters help to maintain healthy populations, that many levels of local economies are sustained by the elephant and so on. I find many individuals glad to be educated on the subject, but nonetheless surprised at their own level of ignorance about any objective elephant facts.

I am one of the affiants in the SCI lawsuit against USF&W. SCI is doing yeoman work on the issue, as is John Jackson, and exposing the hypocrisy of the antis charitable organizations is a very important function.

As Harry Truman used to say, "I don't give 'em Hell. I just tell the truth about 'em, and they think it's Hell."

kudos to SCI for a great effort! now if we could just get the average dumb-ass American donor to actually read the document, maybe things would change.

I am not on facebook but Joyce is. She usually keeps controversy off her page, even though her "wallpaper" (if that's what it's called) is her with a Reedbuck she shot.

I showed her a printed copy of this presentation by SCI and she agreed it should be shared. She put the link on her Facebook page and it has already been shared to two other friend's pages. One of whom is an avid animal rights type person. She had no idea of the facts.

I recommend we all try and share this outside our closed ranks of hunting friends. Education is a good thing.

In the "Propaganda Stampede" section, last sentence, they left out the word "million" after $15.75. If anyone has a relationship with the drafters of the document they might get them to correct this.

Where is this document going and to who?

Larry, I presume like most "white papers" or "advocacy papers" it was prepared for multiple purposes, e.g., primarily as a leave behind for meetings with legislators and administration personnel and for use with the media either in direct outreach (the report was announced in a press release that media outlets pick up) or in response to inquiries on importation issues.

Thanks for posting this. I shared it on my Facebook page. These groups should be an easy target for us with all their hypocrisy. We can hurt them bad but only if we help get the word out
