Well the rifle finally arrived, but thansk to tender and brusied shoulder and arm after lots of shooting last weekend with calibers from 223-500 A2, it wont be shot on some days yet....

The rifle is bulidt upon an VZ 24 action, and the magazine lid and opener is from an Brno 602, that is shortened in a little bit in the rear, and its a fine user rifle that has all the english styles included.

It has shot seal, mountaingrouse, red deer and moose over jere by its previous owner.

This rifle will follow me to Africa and South America in some months.

I pardon for putting it in the African section, but isnt the 404 Jeffery nicknaed "The African workhorse"?

Bullets and brass that followed was 400 grs barnes X, a long torpedo that wont probably stop in much, 300 grs Mimek lead bullet, looks very fine and interessting for a good training round.

300 grs Tonheim PBP, Rhino, uncertain of weight, and Barnes 400 grs RN Solid.

Magacapacity is 5 rounds so it will hold plenty of rounds for many a situation that i will probably encounter.

So i can use bullet weights from 300 grs up to the new Woodleigh 450 grs that will come soon in the 404.

Due to some battered and bruised shoulder from various shooting last weekend, tried very much different from 223- 500 A2, there will be som days befor i get to shoot it.

I have been loading up some dummy rounds, and the 400 grs barnes X goes deep in the case ,but Woodleigh soft/solids will be ordered shortly to try it out how they are to the caliber.

Good your rifle is progressing Jaco the 416 Rigby gets more and more popular over here, a friend is waiting for an Ruger RSSM in that caliber, and another one is waiting for an custom Vektor mauser buildt here in 416 Rigby .

Its a great round both of them, , but when i saw that rifle , complete with bullets, dies, over 100 pices of Norma and RWS brass, for 1200 dollars, it was a easy choice for me.

Its not an extended magazine its an oil well... Wink

Thansk for that guys, i like it more and more and shooting will commence next week, im a bit battered in the shoulder now to pull that off.

Well ill reload some ammo first for it then.

Some of the bullets i have is 400 grain Barnes but they get very deep in the neck of the cartridge, is it good to use those bullets or should i wait untill i get the Woodleigh bullets for it?

I will load the Barnes X tomorrow and try in wetpacks, and then ill order Swift, Woodleigh , and more Rhino bullets to try in it.

It will go to Africa and other places, in 2 years time it will have seen a bit action here and there.

Now im looking for scope for it, im thinking about the classic choice the Leupold 1,5-5x20. But i dont like the Duplex reticle, i like the heavy duplex reticle in it.

Thanks 9,3x74 R for the nice comment , it should have gooten home earlier, then it would have been present at SF -07 , and so should you have been to, you were missed by many enthustiasts.

beer Enjoy Afrika 9,3x74R.....

Mr, Leoupold makes a 30mm european reticle which would be more to your liking. That's what I have on my .458 Lott.

Fine looking rifle. Reminds me of the .458 Win Mag (converted to a Lott) that I had in a BRNO 602. A real workhorse. thumb Argentina is waiting.

i havent weighed it yet , but i think nearly 10 pounds, it has the weight where it should be to keep recoil down.

Its a workhorse and it said i must go and get some money for it to test it both here and abroad this season...

How many shells does it hold?

You don't hear about shooting seals everyday.

Hmm fivebig bores, a good idea but it seems our money for the oil is locked up in funds and given to our "friend" that in fact is our enimies..

We have an oil foundation for Norway that is on ca 300 billion dollar now, and it grows but will we get any happy out of it with high taxes, and beer prices and gasprizes that are rising, Hopefully in the future, Ga prize is 2 dollar per liter now , and beer in an pub is 10 dollar now....

the rifle takes 5 shots in the magazine so its a fine handfull to give the user more confidense in an tight quarter. Its quality reminds me of an Rigby Mauser i saw for some months ago, fine and rugged.

Seal hunting is one of the few countrys that still has it and thank God for that . They can be an pest on Aqua farms, destroying lots of fish and spreading diseases on the rest so sevral hundred thousands of dollars can be ruined in some days if a seal get through the net.

A bullet suggested for seal is an Varmint bullet as headshots are taken mostly of the times, it nust be similar to crocodile hunting so prescion, placement and performance are needed here.

I havent hunted seal yet but tha twill come soon , and Norway can have guest hunters with them on hunting. Go for it guys a more "politiccally correct" hunt is difficult to find.
