I met a young (compared to me! Wink ) artist today in White River and thought some of you guys might be interested in seeing his work.

If any of you guys are sending Elephant ears to Lifeform Taxidermy, he can collect from there, paint the ears to your specification and return them to Lifeform to be shipped with the rest of your trophies. If you want paintings on canvas, they come in oils or acrylics and can be put into tubes and couriered to you. - If anyone is interested, please contact me and I'll be happy to give you his contact details.

and he doesn't just do animals

Great work! I had two of mine done at Life Form but they were painted by a woman artist. This guy's work is very nice as well. Thanks for the post Shakari, and tell Yolandi and Bridgit hello when you drop by Life Form again.

I forgot to mention prices in my original post and apologise for that. He charges ZAR12000 per square metre......... how's that for a simple pricing structure! Smiler

UEG,

I was there the other day and will indeed pass on your best the next time I'm there.

Steve,

About how many square meters are there in an average bull elephant ear, and how many ZAR to a US dollar? Thanks

SBT,

I've never measured one, but I guess something like 1 1/2 metres or so......... I'd be interested to hear guesstimates from other people as well.

Exchange rates are fluctuating a lot just now but I think the exchange rate is about R10.5 to the USD..........

Steve, please add me to his list of contacts. I have clients that would be very interested in his work. BTW: My Father spent years rebuilding WW II fighters. Many of them won awards at Oshkosh, Reno etc., but most of them now are in private hands or the Confederate Airforce Museum in Sevierville, TN. Wish I could post some of his pics, but he has them all on color slides.
Cheers,
David

Gents,

I forgot to mention that the artist can of course paint any picture you send him. - wouldn't a portrait of you with you prize trophy look just sooooo good hanging over your fireplace etc.

LDK,

You could always print from the slide and then scan it - or, although it's not available here much, I'm sure in the USA, you could jut have a shop scan the slide and save it to a card. - I'd love to see some of those photos. Smiler

Hi Steve

Looks like very nice work.

For what its worth, you might suggest to him that he gets set up with an email contact very soon, as he will then be able to control his business much better.

Also while we are on promotion, here is another wildlife artist Kenya Born and living in White River SA whom has a website exposing his work, worth a look as well, is an interesting site and interesting man

Steve, I spoke with my Father this morning and he said he had many photo's of his planes and other airplanes (fighters & bombers) that friends flew (originals) from WW II, including a gent from the US who flew a Spitfire in Africa. Was shot down and captured by the Germans. He escaped from a prison train, was recaptured and eventually managed to steal a Messerschmidt ME-109 escape again and fly it to France. My Father met him in east Tennessee when he was inducted into the TN Air Command Hall of Fame. He's bringing me his book that he signed for my Father so I can read his story. I'll scan some pics and post them. My Dad retired from the TN Air Guard/Air Force after 40 years of service to our country. I sat in the cockpit of F-104 Starfighters as a child and bombed half the continent and shot down countless enemies...ha.
Cheers,
David
