I do not know if a decision has been made but I do know that at least four Cities have been visited by SCI and "shopped" to see what is offered. All four of those cities said 2011 is the date they are looking at.

"sixty dollar breakfast this year was an icecream scope of eggs, a scoop of potatoes, and half of a grilled tomato. At that rate they felt safe you wouldn't drink $58.50 in coffe and screw them out of the money they were screwing you out of".

Which high dollor breakfast was this?

Absolutely NOT to be controversial !!!....But, do you think ANY of the SCI board of directors recognize, know, or more importantly Care that some feel as expressed in this thread. Or is it the fact that committments and contracts have been made and must be honored? This is not even taking into account the uncounted number of PH's, Outfitters, Vendors, ad nauseum that also must deal with Weather, Transportation, Logistics and COLD. Those boys (and girls) from the whole of Southern Africa must be freezing parts off!!!

I think San Antonio would be a great location, good weather, great facilities, good restaurants, lots of hotels. Exhibitors could drive from DSC - SCI. Game Conservation International (Game Coin) used to have a big safari convention in San Antonio years ago. Anyone know if Game Coin still exists? I think they had a joint convention with DSC back in 1995.

Sorry, but I must protest this comment. Being on the board of directors of DSC I can tell you that no one sends or is party to this "propaganda". However it you want to look at the local TV station's website www.wfaa.com they may still have the video of an interview with the Dallas Convention center mentioning SCI coming to Dallas in '11.

That walk through the casino every morning - past the seedy gamblers still pounding back drinks and feeding the slots at the break of dawn, through the nicotine haze and the random drunks - man that really whets my appetite for breakfast and sets the tone for the day.

I'd much rather head south or southwest.

Get real... BOOM

Gentlemen....I offically regret ever starting this post. The only motive(s) for it's first posting was to hear about the "going on's" at the convention, and to point out that I am tired of winter weather and longed for a warmer climate (or excuse to get to one) for a few days. CAN ANYONE TAKE THE HIGH ROAD HERE ???
I hear enough of this 'seedy' stuff every afternoon on the evening news. HERE'S TO LIFE LONG FRIENDS AROUND A CAMPFIRE.....enough already with the nasty comments. Asante sana

You are right..it's gravatated a bit off center.

Caretaker, no offense meant. I first heard it from a DSC member at the DSC convention and that is what I was referring to. If SCI want's to move from Reno to Dallas in January they will have to find some other way to make me mad.
I do remember last years ICE storm at the Dallas Convention though. And if one had been traveling to Reno via Atlanta the weekend prior to the convention they would have been rerouted or at least, delayed. Few places are safe in January. Several years ago SCI had their convention in Reno in late March. It was a big improvement I thought but it was a one time deal.

Well, I hope you guys get it all figured out, I have been trying to do that for 40 years and no luck yet...

One show is about like another as far as I'm concerned, you never know what a show will produce until its a month or two over..

As far as I'm concerned there is only one thing that really sells hunts and that is word of mouth, and repeat clientele. Guess thats the old fashion way, but it works for me then again I am not one of the young guns out there and you gotta give them credit, these guys are good at marketing big time.

Now let us get all this figured out.
Where are you going to find a building that is big enough to house some 1500 + exhibitors, hotels near by to house them, an airport that is of proper size to get them from point A to point B without several stops in between and good weather the majority of the time during Jan.?
Now you may or may not like Vegas but that great big old building out there called the convention center continues to host things like the SHOT show, the auto accessories convention etc. etc. etc. There are very few places in the warm states that can house a really big convention. Rest assured the folks attending the convention are not concerned about the Union. As an exhibitor I am not happy about them but it is still the cost of doing business. If the show gets the customer thru the front door it is my problem to sell the customer the product and make a profit. I am not interested in watching the snow plows run up and down the runways while I am trying to go home or get out to get my booths set up.
Now as a long time member of the Dallas Safari Club and as an exhibitor at both Dallas and SCI I don't see how you would hold two conventions in the same town in the same month.
Then there is always the fact that these convention spots must be booked so many years out in order to get the necessary dates needed.
Some of the cities with the larger spots may not always be gun or hunter friendly. I recall one year when the SHOT show was to be in CA and CA passed all kinds of laws regarding guns, ammo etc. that the gun shop owners said no way in hell they were flying to CA and spend their dollars there. The show had to be re-located due to customer rebellion. You can have a party but it will be pretty dull if nobody attends.
I was one of those gun shop owners who told the SHOT show folks no way in hell I was going to give my money to the enemy. As I recall the show was moved to the Astrodome in Houston that year.
For some 20 years I attended the SHOT show and in various cities like New Orleans, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Vegas etc. It is bigger than SCI and with the same problems to contend with.
Once in Atlanta we had a big snow storm. The New Orleans airport is a bitch to get thru even if you aren't going to a convention and is in the middle of nowhere and on and on
Just food for thought.

You can borrow money but you can not borrow time. Go hunting with your family.

Speaking of the Shot Show, I just attended the same in Las Vegas today. Great short sleeve shirt weather, great food, great people, great exhibitors, and lots to see and do in Vegas, with plenty of space for everything and everyone.

Orlando would be just my cup of tea. I could visit a couple of old girlfreinds. On second thought bad idea. They would as old and gray as I am. Bad mental picture. Guess Sadie will be coming on this one if it happens. Like I could do anything else or really want to. Ah! Fantasties.
