I saw Tony Makris on Under Wild Skies shoot Cape Buffalo in Botswana this week with a Winchester Model 1886 in .475 Turnbull. DRT. I believe that Craig Boddington has done the same only in Moz. Big Grin

Hi JFM

Dave Scovill ( an outdoor writer from Arizona ) hunted with me in 2009. He used a 475 Turnbull on buffalo, hippo and elephant cow in the Omay. It worked really well on a frontal with the tuskless, dropped the buff at 60 yards, and being a great shot, brained the hippo at 90 yards open sight! I met Doug Turnbull at SCI, and commented on it!

475 & 470 Turnbull

I've had the pleasure of shooting a Turnbull rifle. Craftsmanship was outstanding! Great rifle to shoot!

A 400 grain bullet at 2200fps doesn't exactly leave a lot to be desired. Pretty much equal to a .450-400NE, but with a bigger diameter bullet. I've never been a lever man. I hunted with an uncles open sighted 22lr for groundhogs when I was a kid. It had novelty, but never grabbed hold of me like the side by sides did. Now that's love!!!!!!!!!!! That said they look outstanding and I wouldn't hesitate to get one if that was my thing.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

STOP TALKING ABOUT THE 475 TURNBULL!!! I've had a desire simmering for one for some time, and have managed to keep it in check until now.

I had Turnbull convert a Marlin 1895 to the .470 Turnbull and color case harden the receiver and lever. Their work was outstanding.
