Just a reminder that it does not have to be something exotic. I damn near died of a sinus infection that turned into "quinsy" or a peritonsular abscess.

Got it on the plane going over.

Here's all the guys in camp that came to visit me when they departed for Stateside.

I didn't know it at the time, but MV (the landowner) told them the night before that he wasn't sure I was going to make it.

Neither was I.

Don,

It would have been a great loss. Do You know the name of the responsible bacteria?

ARTEMISIN

Gadge,

Artemisin is extracted from Artemis and it's supposed to cure many troubles.
Personnally, I don't trust miracle drugs.

Wendall,

Good to hear you are feeling better. Us old guys are going to croak soon enough without jump starting it with malaria.

Hope you are fully recovered now.

I think this post should be pinned and mandantory reading for anyone traveling to remote areas where Malaria is even the slightest possibility. Glad you survived to tell us your story Wendell. I will take this disease extremely serious. From my understanding, there are several Malaria medications that do not stop all types of the disease. Best be positive to instruct your health care provider all of your travel data. Good hunting, LDK

Where can we get the Artusinate (sp?)or Arinet that was the drug given Wendell in the camp?

Is it available in the US anywhere? Canada via the internet. Or maybe South Africa?

Would it seem prudent to have a small supply on hand when in malaria country "Just in case"?

Wendell,

Keep getting well!

At least you got a heck of a story to tell now! Talk about getting one the hard way.

Glad you made it back keep well!

Wendell, I've always enjoyed your input and wit (dry as a proper martini), and while I'm a stranger, just want you to know that I'm damned glad to hear you're on your way to recovery. As an aside, sounds like Medjet delivered the goods. Right on. Owing one's life to another person is a debt that cannot ever be repaid in full, but here's hoping you can take care at least of the interest (and I know you will!) . To your PH, if he's out there: bloody good show, sir. Solid, professional and life saving work. Commendable is an understatement.

Cheers,

KG
