I am researching the best way to transfer payments to Africa. By best, I mean fast, reliable, and inexpensive.

Looking through some old discussions, I found a 2015/16 post about Transfer Wise. The original link was dead, but further searching revealed they had morphed into WISE.

Wise International Money Transfers

There was also some discussion about using your investment broker for transfers with no fees. A simple Internet search brings up multiple articles and videos on YouTube.

It would be helpful to hear some 2025 advice from someone who regularly does this.

Cheers,

~ Alan

We use our regular local bank with zero problems. They are very good about verifying the funds go to the correct person, any doubts and they won’t send until they are satisfied the correct person is receiving the funds.

Alan,

MEA does a lot of international wires. We use the local Wells Fargo with zero issues.

We probably have one of the best banking systems.

We use our regular banks, and money gets to its destination in 24 hours, sometimes much less.

They do charge a fee, but that fee applies to all international money transfers.

Yeah, I've had no issues sending a wire.

One time, the outfitter had a US bank account so I just walked in with a check. That was handy.

Wires have really changed over the years. I used to have to fill out forms with carbon paper with all the information. Now, I just go to my bank and hand them them wire instructions. They do it all and ask me to confirm. They used to charge $35 for a domestic wire or $45 for an international wire, but they don't anymore.
