Moderators, please allow this post to remain as a few members have hunts booked with David. I'm posting this in the African travel and the outfitter forum as well.

I've been on the phone with David tonight and he wanted me to pass along a message to everyone.

Due to the catastrophic flood in Nashville and Middle Tennessee David currently does not have telephone or internet service. There is no indication right now when it will be available.

He asked me to post this message and asked that you contact me for his contact information.

Please email me at x2mosg@yahoo.com. That address goes to my Blackberry so I can respond anytime. Please include your screen name and your real name and I'll respond as quickly as possible.

Thanks for your understanding and continued support for our flood victims in Tennessee.

Thanks Peter,

I met David on AR about 3 years ago and we've since become good friends. I live about 2.5 hours from Nashville, but have family and friends there.

Please convey to David my best wishes for a good recovery from those floods. (I recently saw TV films of portions of Nashville under water and they shocked me - since I had been in Nashville years ago -and seeing a major American city in that condition shook me) I want to be able to resume our War history discussions whenever possible! He's a Reb I enjoy "talking" to, (via AR Africa forum - of all places!) Smiler

Just spoke with LDK. His spirits are much higher. He's gotten much accomplished the last couple of days. Had several volunteer groups stop in to lend a hand and I think the company has done him some good as well as making progress. Told him that several of you had expressed your concerns for him and sent well-wishes.

Keep LDK and all the others in your thoughts, as always.

Thank you David for posting this and to all of you who sent well wishes. As of this evening I have Internet service; some power is restored and I now can watch the news (I had little knowledge of how bad others were affected by this catastrophic flood); and tonight I have hot water (no more ice cold showers..and that's a blessing in itself). They're saying this is a 1,000 year flood. Well friends, I live on a large river that has never flooded this high in my lifetime, and before the Europeans came, thousands of Mississippian Indians lived in my area and in my neighborhood and yard. They would have never built their lodges on a flood plain...period. The archeological evidence that I have personally dug in my yard shows no sign they ever experience flooding where my home is now located. I won't go into why the Corps of Engineers opened the lock at Old Hickory dam, but let's say it cost many lives and billions of dollars in damages. Many homes are being condemned and people are still in dire need of everything. Our community and those volunteers from around the country have supported us in amazing ways, not to mention the Nashville Metro Police Department, Red Cross and Salvation Army. Many church's have responded with volunteer help and no where have we seen looting (that I'm aware of) or shooting at emergency and support vehicles. The one thing that keeps us together in the worst nightmare of our lives is the gift of hope those kind souls are giving us. Millions of dollars may be raised by all walks of life for this disaster, but hopefully it will go to the right places. We as individuals probably won't see any monetary help but we thank God and our fellow men and women who give so much of their time, sweat and support to help us. Things will get better in time and I again want to thank all of you for your prayers.
Kind regards,
David K.

David, where is Old Hickory Dam in relation to Percy Priest Dam? I came thru there Sunday evening and very nearly spent a night stuck on I-40 at several different times. But, that would have been such a small thing compared to the sufferings of so many in Nashville and Mid. TN.

O.H. dam is located upstream from PP lake/dam. OH is on the Cumberland river and Priest is on Stones river (much smaller). Opening the lock at OH is like the dam breaking. Barges go through that lock every day. Each tug is pushing six barges, 2 abreast. You could get a destroyer through that lock. At one time all Interstates were closed coming into Nashville. They're still searching for victims that were washed away. As of today, damages have been assessed at 1.9 Billion dollars and they're still counting.

Incredibly enough, Mr. Keith may actuallty be understating the flood, and its effects. I have lived here for 61 years and could never have so much as imagined either the destruction or the speed at which it occurred.

It took several days for the national media to figure out that something had actually happened here. My theory as to why: we had no looting, and assisted one another as a matter of course. Nothing sexy there.

Glad you're OK, Mr. Keith.
