Kudu causes deadly crash
2009-10-04 16:05

Johannesburg - Two police officers died when the driver swerved to avoid a kudu on the road between Cradock and Middelburg, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.

Inspector Cynthia Nkamba said the accident happened on Friday night when three police officers from Swartkops were travelling to Cradock in a van.

"They swerved to avoid a kudu," she said. The driver lost control of the van and it overturned. One policeman died on the scene.

The other two were taken to hospital, where one subsequently died.

I had a PH,some years ago, who hit a big bull kudu going about 65 mph in a small car with his wife as a passenger. Suffice it to say, there were some very serious injuries, and a near death experience. Like hitting an elk here in the U.S.

It's not an uncommon event over here. My area seems to get more accidents involving hippos and crocs than anything else....... due to the number of banana plantations in the area.
