I will be heading to Namibia in June of 2008. I was hoping to hear about the various travel insurance companies, as well as any experiences you have had with them. Recommendations and testimonials would be appreciated too.

Travel Guard has been good for me. I recommend them. www.travelguard.com/ They are easy to deal with over the phone and I wouldn't go abroad without them. LDK

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

I was schedule to go to TZ for buffalo in the fall of 2005. Two weeks before the due date I took the "fall of 2005" fracturing my pelvis in 2 places. Fortunately I had CSA travel insurance www.csatravelprotection.com . I filed the claim sometime in October, once I had gotten all requested info organized. I believe I received the check before February (almost $12K). They were a pleasure to deal with.
BTW, I completed that trip last Nov/Dec taking a 39-inch and a 39.5-inch buffalo.

Thanks for reminding me to get some insurance. The folks at www.travelguard.com were professional and informed. For 5% of my trip, I got 100% coverage and some med pay, med flights, etc.

The reason I choose Trave Guard is that I've already paid some deposit and unlike some other companies, since I have no pre-existing medical condition, I'm covered for the deposit already made and any that follows so long I'm "insurable" when I make the forthcoming fractional deposits as the trip nears.

JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

The NRA has excellent travel and firearm insurance for members. The rates are fantastic.

Just through ordering a policy with Travelguard, and discovered that the "pre-existing medical condition" part involves non-travelers as well. For example, if hunter's father who was not going has a heart attack 2 days before safari, policy will cover non-recoverable expenses, if insurance bought within 2 weeks of initial deposit.
