I have four skull mounts on placques and a shoulder mounted Nyala about to be shipped to Dallas that were taken in the Limpopo Province last July. The shipping quote I recieved is $1050.00 which seems high to me. The most I ever paid on four prior trips was $800.00 and it had considerably more and heavier items in that shipment in '04. Has shipping costs gone up that much or am I getting it up the wazoo ? What do you think ? Any advice on who to use. Mike

You are probably about right. You are now being charged for volume, not weight. A Nyala shoulder mount will take up as much room as a crate with a 10-day Buff & PG hunt capes and horns

It will weigh less, but take up the same amount of space.

It is not outragous.

Is it just shipping from Joburg to the States? Any inbound/domestic shipping? Any handling or broker fees at either end?

Bill C - my understanding is that the price will get it to DFW (Dallas). I will double check that. I know Coppersmith will want an additional $75 at least for their clearing it. (I've never understood what they do as I end up going to Fish and Wildlife and then to the shipper to pick up)

You could PM Trophy Hunting Queen and ask her what the Coppersmith charges are for. She will know.

About Thanksgiving time last year I received my trophies from RSA. I paid just a smidge under $1000 which included two crates: 1 containing an impala shoulder mount, nyala shoulder mount and blue wildebeeste should mount with the other containing one warthog half mounted like he was coming out of a hole and also a second warthog skull on a shield.

You might want to get some other quotes IMO.
