The 1952 film "Bwana Devil" about the Tsavo maneaters starring Robert Stack is on Turner Classic Movies on August 16th at 11:15 am

A nation with dogs and whiskey beats Nazis. A nation with cats and spritzers is asking to be shoved around.

From the archives of my mind ...

Did you know that Bwana Devil was the first full-length 3D feature film ever made.

I was living in Rhodesia at that time and recall going to see it with the special cardboard 3d glasses and all.

Cheers, Peter

Not sure quite what it is but that line is still spooky all the way from Athi to Mariakani. Lions scare the choo kidogo out of me anyway but the ones in Tsavo East make my hair stand on end.

I'm glad I am not the only one that knows about the failures caused by cats and spritzers.

Many thanks for the post. I really will make sure to watch -because I saw the movie (made later) on the Savo lions with Val Kilmer and Mike Douglas as stars. To be mercifully brief - it was a disater to anyone who had even a minimal knowledge of Africa, lions or the Savo lions.

After nine hours follow up on day of first shot, rebaiting and reporting next day, and another shot in Lion at dark and four hours follow up the next morning before finishing it, John Greeff told me , over a few midday cocktails as we were all getting quite tipsy, "Tom, next time just kill the focking lion!" I agreed!
I presume he will soon be telling a certain Leopard Client the same!
BTW, my scope failed and was off damn near ten inches on first shot. Dusty, who was 15 and quite pizzed at being made stay in the bakkie actually ended up putting the shot in the Lion with my back up which he had aquainted himself with to let it soon be over!

Thanks for the tip. I have the DVR set. I noted that Call Me Bwana will also be on TCM, on Aug 9. Not exactly a serious safari movie but okay for Bob Hope fans. Big Grin

My wife thought that was the perfect movie for a Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode. Sorry guys but that was painful to watch.
