Often on AR we see this question posted by someone planning an African hunt. The question is usually accompanied by several qualifiers, contingencies and even a few hypotheticals.
What if I wait, what if, what if?

Two years ago I took my brother-in-law to Namibia for his first taste of Africa. Like all of us, he fell hard. Each night around the fire he would thank me for introducing him to the experience. He was bitten. As of June he was well into the process of planning a DG hunt for 2010. He had his choices narrowed down to two Zim outfitters.

This past Friday he passed away. No symptoms, no signs. Completely unexpected. He was in his office, at his desk with a couple of African hunting magazines nearby.

Go now. And go later. If it's your passion, go as often as you can. Don't wait.

Go now.

Sorry to hear about your brother Frowner

Go now is the best advice anyone can get. I went on my first at age 31. I wish I wouldn't have waited even that long!

I'm new to this forum..but have learned a few things in the short weeks I've been involved and for sure go sooner if you can. I have hunted for many years but only big game for 20 years. My first trip to Africa 10 years ago, very few days if any go by that I don't think about returning. I have been able to 3 more times but regret only that I didn't start earlier and go more often. Sorry to hear about your loss.

Tragic, but so good to hear that the two of you made the first safari together two years ago.

My condolences on your loss. My brother badgered me for years to go to Africa, finally I gave in and went with him in 1998. A year later he passed away, I treasure the memory of that hunt.

Sorry for your loss, I think it is Mac37 here on AR and I may not have the tag exactly right so I apologize in advance but in his posts it say to the effect,,
"If I die today I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the elephant, and smelled the smoke of africa"
You had the opportunity to sit around the fire and smell the smoke of Africa with him. Cherish that special time that was enjoyed with him. I will raise a toast to him!

My condolences to you and the rest of the family.

Last year I was able to convince my father, brother, uncle, father-in-law and brother-in-law to go on a caribou trip I setup. We all talk about the trip everytime we are together.

I now have scheduled my first trip to Africa and have my wifes family scheduled to go with my wife and I. I keep trying to get my mother and father to join us, but they are holding back. I have a year to convince them, but I'm sure they will go and we will have another once in a life time trip.

Something that will never be replaced is time and I'm not letting any of it slip on by.

My condolences for your great loss. Your advice is succinct and correct.

I have been a very lucky man. Traveled widely around this rock we inhabit and have experienced much. Most of my friends, the few that I have, are ten to fifteen years younger than me because I have outlived most of my contemporaries. I am 66 and just completed another safari and am now planning next year's adventures. I hope I'm around to complete them.

I have a friend, an avid hunter, who is putting off Africa for one reason or another, and I have urged him to go while he can. Time is a fickle mistress, and there is only one guarantee in life.
