Just a question if I should be worried or not.

My cats are ready to fly home from Seattle.

Had all legs booked to Sweden and just the inspection from USFWS left. Well they just said to my agent that it could not fly, its under investigation, he asked why three times and the only answer "under investigation".. Anyhow its only been there for week, normal or not ? The leopards are imported to US from Zim-RSA-US and now re-exported to Sweden.

Put a call into your ambassador to the USA. USF&W is nothing but a gang of anti-hunters. I would also encourage you to kick your agents butt to get some answers and ensure all documents are in order.

Good Luck.

Well that's an interesting turn of events. I wonder if I can fly my lion into the US right now without threat of it being seized by the USFWS claiming "it's under investigation"?

This is nothing new and has been the case for some time now. The USFWS has been a thorn in everyones side for several decades. They are in many ways comparable to animal rights orgs in that many of their decisions negatively impact the animals they claim they care so much about and negatively impacts many countries and their ability to manage their own wildlife.

The USFWS is a classic case of a bureaucracy that has lost its focus and has become so political it is no longer capable of doing the job it was originally created to do.

It uses the power of the US hunter market as a club to force its views on individual countries and knows its decisions can instantly cut off 60 to 70 percent of the market base.

All you have to do is look at the idiocy of their stance on the importation of legally taken polar bear trophies from Canada or the ridiculous amount of time it took to finally have the wood bison debacle straightened out and it took a court order to achieve it......... not even a judge could not understand their reasoning, or lack there of.

I have instructed my dip-and-pack firm that they are NOT to ship via the US from Moz to Canada. I do not want to be part of a USFW confiscation.

If I remember right they were a couple of nicely mounted cats. The guys doing the "investigating" may be trying to decide whos office they would look best in. This can sometimes take a few days to sort out. Big Grin

Basically all the people at USF&W are idiots and power mad. My last shipment from Africa that came in last month had a croc, impala, bushbuck, warthog and giraffe took 2 weeks to get cleared and released. The problem was when you give an idiot a little power he goes crazy.

Good Hunting,

Dave, There are no citeable animals in your shipment. The warthog needs to go to a taxidermist for th swine flu stuff and maybe it was held in quarantine all because of the hog for two weeks.

Mine also took two weeks to clear coming into Houston. New USF&W service guy involved delayed things I was told.

Having worked as a USFWS biologist for five years in the late 70's to early 80's, I can attest to the incompetence, ignorance, and anti-hunting attitude that was building in the agency at that time. I'm sure it has only gotten worse.

My shipments have always gone through New Orleans. I make an appointment with Wildlife and Fisheries to inspect them. We open the crates, check the documentation together and in short order I am on the way. Not saying this for sure, but I think when a clearing agent gets involved, they schedule the clearing for whenever it is convenient for all parties. The process does not take days, sometimes less than an hour.

We seldom get to choose
But I've seen them go both ways
And I would rather go out in a blaze of glory
Than to slowly rot away!

Mt travel agent called today..

He was told once again that it is under investigation..

He asked if they needed more papers from me or him or anything else that was not in order.

The answer was NO.

The investigator was probably trying to determine if he himself had a brain or not. And then if he found he had a brain where it was located, in his head or his ass.

Anton that is good news.
