Afton Guest House News
An ‘institution’ is a term not used lightly. It is something built over many years. Word of mouth by its nature takes time to spread and is an essential component in the development of an institution.
But when this formula is correct - the result is powerful. And that is what has happened at possibly the most famous hunters’ first night in Johannesburg.
Afton was started by Louis and Annelise 18 years ago, and back in the early days the African Hunting Gazette made contact, understanding the synergy. We kept in contact over the years, and while Annelise continued flying the flag solo after Louis’s sad passing, it was not until my annual call this year that things changed!
It is an honor to carry the baton forward into the next chapter. With client comments in the guest book referring to their 15th, 16th and 17th return visit, all I can say is that this ties in 100% with our overall mission – “To promote hunting in Africa.”
Afton will be Africa’s base for the African Hunting Gazette.
Expect a follow-up soon with our full range of services and website updates – but for now – all the faces are the same, and the team, other than Annelise, is still there and ready to help. We wanted to say, “Hello, thank you for the support over the years, and this is who you can now expect at Afton.”
We look forward to being of assistance.

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

crsheltonThanks for the nice tribute to the Afton Guest House. It was where I spent my first night on my first safari and the experience was excellent and memorable.

Yes AnotherAZWriter, Richard is the new owner. Currently I have no clue where or what Annelise will be doing, but I will be there soon and will report once I return.
