Mike was kind enough to give us a ride to the Friday night shindig.
I road shotgun so that I could be one of the first ones at the scene of the crash.

Mike;

Every year I mark my calendar with the dates of the DSC event...but it's sooo far between California and Texas (in so many ways)....I would however prefer to be in Texas! Maybe I'll try harder for next year! You guys always seem to be having such a great time.

Do you ever go to SCI convention?

Best regards, Darin

Mike,

The leopard pic you posted where the cat is completely vertical and attacking the impala, was done by by new taxidermist, Roy Holdrige of True Life Taxidermy in Granbury, TX. This is his personal cat taken in RSA a few years ago.

I've looked at and studied that mount for several years now and find it fascinating. When viewed from the front, the view you see in your picture, no part of the impala or leopard is touching the base. It appears to be suspended in air as the impala is running at the moment all of the impala's feet are off the ground.

If he has it there again next year, take a close look at it.

Great leopard pics...first time in 10-12 years I didn't go to Dallas. Pics just make me wish I had!

BTW, I wouldn't call Roy a "new" taxidermist.

And yeah, that is a great mount!

Roy is MY new taxidermist as my previous taxidermist has ruined a couple of my mounts lately including a leopard (posted in the taxidermy forum with its claws extended) and the face on my brown bear. No, Roy isn't new to taxidermy. In fact I would list him as World Class!

Let me also nominate for "Spouse Most Likely to Make Their Mate Look Good", Lucy Begno. Butch clearly married over his head. That couple goes to show you that its not just good food that comes from Louisiana, they have their fair share of good people too.

Unfortunately I have not been able to attend DSC yet. I have attended SCI several times. In comparison, how big is the DSC show to the SCI show? I know that everyone tells me that DSC is much more personal but I am just trying to get a feel for how many booths from DSC and SCI.

I have attended the SLC Hunt Expo show and it is about 10% the size of SCI or so it appears.

Littlejoe: This year we (DSC) had about 850 exhibitors filling slightly over 1400 booths. I don't know how that compares to SCI, but we had several hundred thousand square feet of exhibit space. The number4s for the show next January will be very close as far as exhibitors and booths goes.

If you start at one end and do not visit with exhibitors you can walk end to end in a day. But do some serious inquiring and you need multiple days.

Little Joe come for a visit next year.

The man at the booth with the water buff bull and the very long sagging horns said that the animal had only one testical. that causing the extreme length and the sagging because being sub=fertile it had low bone density so the horn core was weak and sagged under the weight.
