Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Might be a bit early.

Also, judging from all the special offersw I am getting, I think business is down quite a bit.

You will get a thorough hunt report in October, though beer

Anyone hunting Tanz in July is after cats big time.

I once hunted the Selous in July. Never do that again.

I'll take a guess. Grass so green you can't burn it and so high elephants could hide in it! I would imagine bait gathering would be a chore!

Brett,

Adam may post a detailed report but the first safari in Masailand with our Tanzania Bundu Safaris was a 3x3 that netted 1 55# ele, 3 lion, 3 leopard, 10 buffalo from 40"-48", 32" lesser kudu and a total of 63 animals in 13 days. Yikes!

Is it just me or are hunting reports in general slow this year? Seems like we have many more reports by now. Those of us, like me, who have to live vicariously through those reports are suffering this year.

Mark:

Most impressive - that's the great thing about having a concession on the Tarangire boundary and also being the fortunate client to secure a booking for July/August - can't be better! How come a 10th Buff on a 3x3? ....a rogue charge maybe? Wink

Mark is that Lobo or Lokisale, or both?

Guys,

One client shot 2 buffalo, another 3 buffalo and the 3rd hunter bought an extra 10 day buff hunt for 2 buffalo in addition to his 3 allowed on the 21 day license and shot five. So they got a total of 10.

tanz2007

They were able to hunt both areas but I think Lobo produced the most game on this safari.

Just back from the Selous last week. We were hunting buffalo primarily. This was my fourth trip to the Selous and I knew what we were in for at this time of year, but it was the only time I could take my son, who is turning 21 this year, do to his college soccer schedule.
It was even tougher than I thought it would be. Heavy late rains in late May and early June had the grass higher and greener than it would normally be. Virtually unburnable.
Hunted hard for 10 days from dawn to dark. Saw a lot of buffalo, but not by Selous standards for sure, probably literally 1000's that we didn't see although they may have been close. If they hadn't crossed a road or you saw where they may have passed during the night, you didn't see them or could not get on them.
Took a nice old bull on the 5th day (first even semi-decent bull we saw). Heavy full boss, but not wide, only around 37, but a good bull. Normally I would not have taken him, but my PH talked me into it (turns out he was right). Take him and then spend the rest of the time looking for a bigger, older Dagga boy. Never got on one, although we chased them around in the heavy stuff for the next 5 days. Were within 10 yards of bulls several times, but couldn't see them. Pucker factor high....lots and lots of fun.
Ironically saw some terrific animals not on the menu. Huge Kudu, over 50 at 200 yards broadside for 5 minutes. Great sable. A couuple of very fine elephant, long "Tanz like" tusks. And a decent lion (probably old enough) on a wildebeest kill. So, in those ways the trip was a success.

I was hunting with Rungwa in K-1 and K-2. It was a great time. I didn't hunt with Harpreet (who was on a 63 day hunt), but with Gam, who did a great job as always. Lot's of fun. It's hunting. I expected the grass to be high (but not that high) and a lot of it (but not that much) and the flies to be bad, they certainly were, but no worse than usual. As I said, I pretty much knew what I was getting in to in early July. It did not disappoint....
