What’s going on at the Afton Guest House? This question is for those who have stayed there since May of this year. Like myself I know others have stayed there in the past and have experienced nothing but the finest service and hospitality from Louis & Annelise. Earlier this year Richard Lendrum, publisher of African Hunting Gazette, took over management of the Afton Guest House. I am now hearing talk that unless they are their “preferred” companies they are talking down and bad mouthing other outfitters, taxidermists and safari related companies. They are trying to sway their guests to utilize “their” companies. What have you experienced recently?

If this is the case, it is a recipe for disaster. Every company recommends certain other companies, but never let that recommendations affect their clients.

Common hospitality industry practice. There are several fishing outfitters in Alaska and Costa Rica, for example, who steer their clients to selected hotels with whom they have pricing arrangements. Similarly, hotels refer guests to selected outfitters. The golf industry does the same with courses / hotels / car rental agencies. Not defending anything, just stating a fact. I certainly agree that there should never be any "negative" shared with the clients. 114-R10David

Stayed there in June, other than meeting the new owner and shaking his hand I didn't even see him. Same fellow took me through the airport, same guy picked me up and took me back. Same great service that I have experienced the 5 times I have stayed there.

Service and food are outstanding Gilbert picked us up, cleared our guns and ran us back to the airport for our Victoria Falls trip. New ownership and name: Afton Safari Lodge. Renovations were being done when we were there back in late May. Clients from July reported things as per usual and the braai was excellent. Additional services and cost can be found on their web site. I have stayed at the Afton many times and never had a problem. The managers name is: Engee Potgieter.
