What is the current state of ele tusk importation from Zim? I realize it can change over night but I am trying to find out if there is a legit chance of getting them into the USA even if it takes a long time to do so. I have not been able to find much information that I would deem legit or that I understand. I don’t want to have a serious conversation and waste an outfitters time if they cannot come home.

Joe,

If the operator has jumped thru the appropriate USF&G hoops you definitely can import an elephant shot in Zimbabwe or Zambia. I just had a couple hunters get there letter saying that their import permits had been issued by USF&G.

I can give you a couple of operators in Zim that have everything in order.

It is my understanding the April 1, 2014 thru 2015 window will probably never be approved. After USFW imposed the ban, Zimbabwe stopped doing the paperwork that would meet the USFW requirements.

Talking to a friend who had a 2016 elephant, the ivory was recently approved and I think was in transit during the DSC show.

Clearing the ivory backlog seems to have slowed down the approval of cats.
