Shootaway,

What you hunt is vitally important to when you hunt Zim. I don't think that it is wise to separate the two. Also, for some species like crop raiding elephant or best chance for cats the best time would be vastly different than for say buff. Location of the hunt also affects the best time to hunt. It can vary widely.

For buffalo and tuskless-November in the Omay because tiger fishing is good on Kariba and I am a glutton for punishment.

I would only hunt in Zimbabwe if you, shootaway, were also there, in the same camp, and we were hunting dugga girls 2x1 with a deaf, mute, rookie PH, during a full moon, in the wrong concession and out of season.

Oh, yeah, during a full blue moon.

I am going in Sept - first time.

Not too hot. Bush should be quite open & buffalo should be around. Also the birds should be in season - hope to SEE lots of game.

My safaris were always in July,August or September so don't have any idea about any other months. Didn't really have any particular preference for any of the 3.

If you'll tell me your favorite month to hunt there I'll tell you my least favorite.

October or November in Chete is as hot as hell!

But, we had some of our best hunts there during those months.

Not much shade.

Followed some buffalo and manage to shoot one close to midday.

The truck was miles away, so three of us stayed behind, while some went to get the truck.

We were in a mountainous area, no wind at all, and the rocks magnified the heat.

Each had to sat about 100-200 yards from the others, so we can sit by a small mopane tree with a trunk that is about six inches in diameter!

I have hunted in August,July and October.I like August but October much better.I will never hunt Zim in July again.I think it has to do with a conditioned fall time hunting mood I have.I really like the hot dry heat too and enjoying the shade of a large tree or straw roof at noon at camp while pouring myself an icy soft drink.I also enjoy sitting next to the fire hearth(without the fire)in mid day and just letting my body absorb that majestic Zim sunlight energy while everyone else is napping. All this in the wild bush of course.

I have been very fortunate to have some great company in camp on all my hunts.Ideal would be one hunter and his PH as company.I really got along with people who love hunting in there own way and coincidentally do not like computers and are not AR members.

My favorite time to hunt in Zambia, or Zimbabwe is the last week of June, the whole month of July, and the first couple of weeks of August! The nights are cool and the days are not overly hot. The draw back is, in the early part of this time the bush is thick, but in the last half of this time period some of the burns have opened up the area some, but still comfortable temperatures for long treks!

Since I shot my first and also only tuskless in September I would say September is the best month for zim. Also Nickh was there the same time as me and had been there before and chose that time also, so in my very, very vast ten days of experience in Africa I think that settles it, case closed.
Just kidding but I did have fun.

September is a great month-especially the latter part of it,IMO.A nice trip to Kariba at the end of the trip would be a spot on thing for a PH to propose......a cold drink on a nice hot afternoon at the Kariba hotel bar next to the pool(don't dive in the pool drunk unless you are young and strong-lol)would surely be a memorable event.
