There is nothing I would like better than to have none of what you call chaff here.
But, the value of the discussion will come to nothing.
What one has to bear in mind is that this an INTERNET forum.
This means 99% of those who post are unknown to those who read their posts for the first time.
As time goes by, one learns the character of each member, and we tend to feel closer to the opinions of some than others.
We also get to know the real idiots.
Who have no life in reality, and tend to manufacture one as they see fit on the Internet.
We have had individuals here who actually used several IDs - going as far as ZK has done by using a proxy server to hide their IDs.
They used those different IDs to have an ongoing discussions on the forums.
Just imagine what sort of sorry state a person is in that he creates 2 or more ID to talk to himself on an Internet forum??
He will use one ID to ask a question.
He logs out, and logs in using another ID to answer his own question.
Saeed,
With all due respect I strongly suggest that you seek out the advice of some of the other successful forum owners out there. Just as hunters seek advice and learn from other hunters I am sure that you can learn from interacting with other forum owners. I subscribe to a few very popular forums of a technical/hobby nature. The majority of them have very on-topic and useful discussions with a great sense of community - many of the people know each other, as much if not more than AR. On the other hand, other than a little petty sniping and a few arguments that get out of hand they have very little of the virulent, inflammatory discourse that I so often see on here.
There are also some techniques and technologies available to counter some of these proxy logins and other shenanigans.

Most other forum owners are out to make a buck. Saeed is not. Personally, I have not seen a perfect forum, but AR comes the closest.

That's the description I was looking for as well. A low life.
Shameful comments toward what by all accounts is a very nice, nice looking, and classy lady. I suppose these trolls get some sick enjoyment out of jerking people's chains but I can't for the life of me understand why someone would take such a cheap shot at a lady. It's uncalled for and insulting to anyone with a sense of decency.

npd345I opened up some of the posts from Frostbit's hunts that also included pics of who I assume is Bait babe.
Frostbit I say the following with the greatest of respect for you and your wife.... that is one fine looking young lady!
You are truly blessed to have a wife who participates with you on your hunts.
ZK I have to assume that there is a little white around your eyes.
If so that would be the only proof, you would have, that you are not completely full of shit.

Ackley Improved UserSome have suggested that there is no discipline or calls for polite discussion on AR...this is not true.
The following was posted by an AR moderator MS Hitman on the handgun hunting topic thread.
MS Hitman calls for decorum.
"I'm going to take this opportunity to remind everyone I expect a lot more decorum and courtesy on this forum than I have been seeing lately.
This does not mean we all have to agree on everything. We may just have to agree to disagree, but I do believe we need to react as if we were in the same room with each other when responding to a post.
Everyone take a moment to brush the chips off your shoulders and let's quit this nonsense. I can't even let my children look at this forum because of the language that is being typed and the attitudes of people who are supposed to act as adults.
Either clean this forum up and behave or I am going to be working with the administrator to have the offending individuals removed. Everyone is a guest here because I'm sure no none pays a dime to help keep the thing going .
You'd be surprised how hard simple is on some people.
If ignorance is bliss; there are some blissful sonofaguns around here. We know who you are, so no reason to point yourselves out."

I do not think so. Hard as it may be to believe, I think they are actually two different a-holes not one. While I think George is definitely like a piece of cheese that has gone bad, I find it hard to believe that he would actually insult a woman. He is certainly not above spreading his drivel around with other members, but personally I cannot see him being insulting to women. No doubt about it in my mind, while they may be birds of a feather, Zombie Breathe is certainly the more despicable of the two.

TerryRI would not change the way AR is run. My suggestion is that we would be prudent to be a little more patient before we leap into accusations and counter accusations when something serious, such as a conflict between an outfitter and client, or an accident on a hunt occurs. Frequently we respond like hungry dogs to a free steak and sides are taken and charges leveled before the real facts are known. I believe it is the "trial by internet" syndrome that chases people away rather then the occasional presence of trolls. For those like ZK, the best answer is to ignore his posts. He is simply trying to get attention, deny it and he will go somewhere else.
I have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge by participating here. PHs, experienced hunters and those who simply ask questions have all made me, I hope, a better hunter. Hopefully one of my occasional comments has helped someone else. I simply find it sad that others who could be great sources of information are discouraged because we tend to be too quick on the trigger.
The solution isn't new rules, it is rather taking a deep breath and thinking before we hit "post now"

On several of my hunts I have urged various PHs, both mine and those I have shared camps or hotels with, to get involved with the AR forum. Usually I get polite silence. When I do get a response it is along the lines of;" No way, there are too many loose cannons there waiting to start slinging mud over things they generally don't know. It isn't worth having my reputation hurt by people who have never hunted with me and don't even know me."
I think we may want to take a good look at how we comport ourselves here.
I can certainly understand why some hunting industry business owners may not want to post on AR. As Wendell pointed out it is a double edged sword that you can wield with benefit but also be cut by the same sword. Wendell is as good an example as anyone. He has a good reputation, yet ended up a victim of a lengthy thread about some trophies hung up in another country. That story ended happily and interestingly the initial author disappeared from AR without as much as a thank you.
So how does that sword analogy apply to posters that frequent AR and do not have a business interest in the hunting industry? My personal experience is this.
I came here initially with a “Google Search” for African hunting. I used AR to help me regain contact with Mark Young and also allow my OCD driven nature to research possibilities and expectations for my pending hunt. Having never been to Africa, nor ever booking a guided hunt before, the information I learned was invaluable. For me, that research and anticipation only enhances the entire experience. I stayed as a contributor and I continue to learn from most who post here.
In the last five years, thanks to AR, I met my taxidermist, Jerry Huffaker. He and Wendell have enjoyed the hospitality of my home and we have enjoyed their company. They are good folks.
I met Brett Barringer. He is a fine young man half my age that I am proud to call my friend. My wife and I will be at his wedding in one month. I take great pleasure in trying my best to embarrass him by answering the question posed to me by his other friends at social event about how we met…”I met Brett on the internet”.
I made initial contact with Andrew Baldry via AR. One needs only to read the 2012 Zambia hunt report to know what the result of that contact brought. Andrew remains our friend, stays in close contact, and was devastated by Joyce’s cancer diagnosis. He’s a tootsie roll pop, tough on the outside and quite soft in the center.
I’ve met and have become close friends with Darin & Bob Nelson. Darin spent time at Gunsite with Joyce and they are the best of friends.
We have hunts booked in 2015 with Buzz Charlton and Derek Littleton. AR provided the link to the information I needed to choose them as our partners in these pending hunts.
As much as I tease Biebs about being the Darth Vader of Blaser rifles, I met him on AR and he sent me a $4,500 (non-blaser) rifle via the classifieds even before my check hit the mail. That’s trust based solely on an internet persona. I paid that trust forward by shipping a Swaro spotting scope to a gentleman in Texas before receiving the funds.
Those same classifieds have brought me two fantastic deals on old English Double Rifles.
I had the pleasure of briefly meeting Mr. Larry Shores in Fairbanks during last Sheep season. After seeing all he has selflessly done for Stu Taylor this last year I consider that meeting an honor.
So there is your up side of AR and those choosing to avoid this site potentially miss out on that benefit.
The down side of AR. The chaff!!
The disgusting statements recently in this thread concerning my wife of 40 years pale when compared to the statement by the same author concerning our benevolent host of this totally free website.

I can't wait to see how many of you sycophants fall all over yourselves to defend Muslims since I just offended them with my comments. Fire away...I'll direct your comments to Homeland Security.
When I read the vile statements about Joyce it did initially bother me. Why wouldn't it. I mentioned them to Joyce (she only reads AR when I point something out), she laughed. I suppose ZK and his statements mean even less to her than the mosquito I considered him to be.
It's up to Saeed and the Moderators to decide what's appropriate on here but once censorship starts it usually grows and that may well hurt this site.
I say leave the place as is.
Lastly, since I've been accused of pimping my wife here's a picture of the 60 year old ugly, lesbian, dyke while on chemo and sporting a wig.

MJinesI understand the comments about censorship, free speech, using ignore, the difficulty in drawing lines, etc. and I think that is all true in 99% of the cases. I also feel, however, that there are some comments and statements that are so beyond the pale, so distasteful, so non-germane and uncalled for, so highly personal and immature that to ignore the comments and not take action is wrongheaded. In fact when no action is taken in those circumstances it makes you wonder whether the decision has less to do with free speech and more to do with sort of enjoying having active controversy to keep interest up.

MJinesWhat's curious is the standard -- absence of a standard -- arbitrary application of a standard -- evolving standard -- whatever -- for being "banned". Dan McCarthy, someone who actually had knowledge and experience to contribute to the forum and did so regularly, is banned, yet someone like Zombie Breathe who adds absolutely nothing of socially redeeming value is allowed to vilely insult someone in a completely disgusting way and their right to do so is defended. Go figure.
