It's here. I've fondled it. I'll take it to work and brag a lot. And maybe around the Spring Break I'll even have time to read it . . . Sarge Holland's .375: One Planet, One Rifle . . . for one hundred years!

What can I say, love it. About half way through today, will finish this evening. Then I will go back and really read it and put the AR names to the stories. I would like to propose this. Whenever you think there is even a slight chance of encountering another AR member you must carry your book and have him/her sign it. See how many autographs you can acquire in say a year. Dave, I'm only a few chapters into it yet, but so far it's better than expected...and it's neat reading what fellow AR members have written. My inputs, for what little they're worth: - Format: Go hard cover. It'll last longer...but I reckon that's why Will's book is $50. - Photos: Some are very high definition/quality, but others are not. I prefer the photos be imbedded in the stories to which they belong rather than be together in the middle...but that may be just me. Did you do any editting? The writing is far above amateur. Cheers, Matt

I received my copy late Monday. I have only had time to read two chapters. Excellent -great variety. I hope I can get back to it this weekend. Doyle "He must go -- go -- go away from here! Got mine yesterday, enjoying it considerably. Agree that the pics might be better and that they be with the stories they pertain too. My son loves the pics of the cartridges. Overall, do another and I'll buy it. SFC E7

I appreciate the feedback to date. The picture quality reflects the quality of the originals that I received from authors; those in the book that are good started as good originals. I would have preferred to put the pictures with the stories, but that would have increased the printing cost by about 30%. Dave One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. I received mine today! I really like the look. Haven't read it yet. I am sure I will be pleased with the content. I would have paid more for hardback but I like it the way it is. It has a "handbook" feel. Like something you would take with you. Thank you all for your hard work!

I agree that it is a well done effort. I have been hopping around reading a chapter at a time randomly and am enjoying it immensely. What I particularly like is being able to read informed opinions and experiences without the (often unnecessary) interjections found in these pages. ___________________________________________________________________________________________

Dave... It's been a long time coming and I know you have put a bunch of work into it over the past year plus. Thanks man!! I got my copy last night and I have to say my expectations were exceeded. Obviously I haven't read every chapter yet but the ones I did read last evening were great. Thanks so much for your efforts. WELL DONE! Make the first one count!

Dave, It is a beautiful book. You did very well. I got it last week a few days after you mailed it, but it got buried in my pile of mail. I have just now "dug out" and will spend some time now reading all the fine literature. In 2001 I was not sure what a "Gun Writer" was. Now I are one, and a humorist to boot. Roll over in your graves, Mark Twain and Peter Hathaway Capstick ... I'll give everybody a chance at the first edition. Let me know if there are any extras to be bought. Many thanks.

My copy arrived yesterday, and I read until the early hours. All of the stories selected are well written, bravo to the writers and the editor. Just finished it last night - I liked it! Some good campfire stories and some great tips. I, too, was uneducated regarding the BSI. Move over John Taylor. Some great quotes as well, like the 458 min mag being the most sworn by and sworn at round ever.... SCI Life Member DSC Life Member

I'm still reading in "The Experience". Unfortunately, some long hours at the office has kept me to a few pages in bed each night, but I'm gonna try to make up some ground this weekend. So far, I love it. The recounts of the safaris that I've read thus far give very vivid detail. When will part II be released? I know that there are more folks around that have experiences to share. Hopefully in a couple years I'll have some of my own. Great job, David Walker

Congrats to all involved with the AR book. I think it's a job well done. I would suggest that you make this a series (one volume per year maybe?). The tips are invaluable to those about to experience their first Arfrican hunting trip or just beginning to plan one, and everyone enjoys a good hunting story. Just look at all the questions that are asked and answered here on AR. I'd buy copy every issue and wouldn't mind having extra's for my clients. Thanks to all of you! Good hunting, L. I've read mine cover to cover and it's excellent. Very well written and a good blend of different subjects. Only area I suggest to be improved is the cover and perhaps more artwork and pictures. All in all I rate it an A-. In terms of value for $ it's an A+ "shoot quick but take your time"

Wow! I am also amazed at the difference in personal abilities of your readership -- us. For me to read the whole thing through would "equivalate" (my own word invention) to smoking a full box of double maduros or doing the whole bottle of Laphroaig instead of half a cigar / half a glass. All things in moderation for me -- savoring each one. Each entry is unique, the stories and personal experience of each author shine through, and the non-formulaic approach (read not-like-in-the-magazines) let me see, hear and maybe even feel Africa and hunting. Does my heart good. Thank you _______________________

Recently, I have spent a lot of time and effort reading a variety of African oriented books, mostly about Rhodesia/Zim and RSA - from a historical and safari viewpoint. I have read several "how to" books as well. On the "plus side" - I enjoyed the mix of stories, the personal experiences, the perspectives of the various contributors. The "coordinator" of pulling this together did a very solid job in getting a nice mix and not making this a "how to" book. There is much to much competition from Boddington, Flack, Pondoro Taylor, Gregor Woods and others to tell us "how to" go on a hunting trip and what rifle to take. I especially was pleased to see Terry Blaukamp's work on bullets included. As an engineer, I also enjoyed the explanation of the Bwana Saeed Index. That was a mystery to me, but no more. I still do not fully value it, but at least I understand the math. Much like Taylor's knockout values. On the "to do next time" side of things - I would include an essay or two on ethics and the potential future of African hunting (if we can find someone to go out on a limb to state such things), I would like to have seen a story by Saeed on his passion for buff, from 500grains or Bill Stewart on their passion for elephants and most of all - an essay by a PH (Shakari or others) on - "My favorite client is...." to describe what they like to see in a hunter. ( I realize that not everyone has a passion for baboons like me, but that would be a topic I would enjoy as well, oh well...) I copied Jorge's reply as I agree with his last statement and wish some of the authors would frequent the forum. I still have much to learn from them. Overall, worth every penny of the $25 on this fun and fine book. Great effort and "kudu's to all that contributed time and effort. Be proud of yourselves.

Like everyon else I have enjoyed the book very much. Very helpful to me were the explanations and comparisons of the DG calibers as I did not know all that was out there. The book reconfirmed my good decision to get a .416 Rem Mag for my buff hunt 2 yrs ago.
