Because snakes can be so deadly and hard to spot, I really don't like them. Considering all the time people (myself included) have spent traipsing around in thick cover, it is surprising more people aren't bitten and killed. Glad to hear the PH is going to be okay. I was hunting in Northern Namibia with a PH named Dirk R. when we drove over a mamba that crossed the two track between the front and rear tires. I have never seen a snake move that fast. Dirk was driving and I was in the back, and he would not get out of the truck at the next gate until I swore to him that I had seen the snake go out the other side of the truck. He told me that they can sometimes catch a ride on the frame of a moving truck and that men have been bitten as they stepped out of the door. Dirk is a big tough fellow but he surely did not like snakes.

I received a FB message from Andrew and he is at home and resting well. It was close, very close. Andrew told me to go to www.gunsite.co.za and go to the forum tab for Survival & Bushcraft and then to the Black Mamba thread to get a better idea of what happened. I am copying and pasting the Doctor's comments on what happened back up in the lead post, but you should go to the thread yourself to get a lot of useful info in case you are ever bitten by a Black Mamba or other poisonous snake. Bottom line is that you want Dr. Willie Barnard to take care of you in case of snake bite. STAY IN THE FIGHT!

http://allafrica.com/stories/201701300442.html Zimbabwe: Black Mamba Kills Girl, 10, As She Collects Wild Fruits in the Bush A 10-year-old girl reportedly died in Zimbabwe's Mangwe village after she was bitten by a black mamba while collecting wild fruits in the bush, a report said on Saturday. According to the state-owned Chronicle newspaper, Newo Sibanda was in the company of his elder brother Fosi Sibanda, 15, when the incident occurred on Thursday. Fosi was said to have seen the snake lying in the grass. He alerted his little sister, who immediately panicked and stepped on it. She was bit on the leg. A passerby tried to help by carrying her to the hospital, but unfortunately she died on the way. Village chief Tshitshi confirmed the incident. Black mambas are some of the most poisonous snakes in Africa. Last year an 8-year-old boy also died after being bitten by a poisonous black mamba. The boy's mother said her child died after officials failed to give him anti-venom. The boy, Macdonad Simango was bitten on the ankle by the 2.3m-long snake in the sugar-growing Chipinge district of south-eastern Zimbabwe. Went to the site Gunscore refers to and read the doctor's notes. He opines that the "bite" was a "dragging" across the skin with little envemonation. Wow. A very lucky man, indeed. 114-R10David
