Does anybody know what the typical booking agent receives for booking a hunt -- is it a percentage of the day rate? If so, what is that percentage on average? Just curious.

Actually, all those Gov't fees are paid to booking agents. Once a year we get a huge check in the mail, at least that's what President Mugabe said we could expect. I watch my mailbox everyday, because I'm expecting another one from President Obama.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Some agents make 15% on trophy fees as well,
Some agents mark up trophy fee and take the difference

Yes, some agents mark up the trophy fees.

And they advertise them on the Internet.

And idle Government officials poring over the net read these adverts.

And they go to the Minister's office, and show the printout, and say "Sir, I was saying it all along that our trophy fees were too cheap and that we were underselling our precious natural resources and that the white folks out there are screwing us and now we should show them that we are not so stupid!"

And trophy fees get bumped up 50%.

And everyone is screwed.

And hunters don't understand why many outfitters have a problem with most agents...................

I have a huge problem with agents. Got screwed by one this season, trusted him to receive all the fees from the client and now he's refusing to pay the balance. But 15% on daily rates is the usual and sometimes on trophies too.

But you don't want to name names?! Come on, you are hiding behind a screen name. Out with it!

Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

I hope it works out for you, but these bad players need to be exposed. Best of luck.
