President of Namibia, Hage Geingob, vowed to push ahead with land expropriation during a speech on Monday.

His call to redress this 'historical inequality' echo the government of neighbouring South Africa, where the issue has become a fierce political battleground.

Once they take everything they want and feel that they have satisfied the "inequities of the past" and all the non-blacks leave, they will be back to living in mud huts within a generation and begging the industrialized nations for handouts .. which the political elite will of course steal..

Just a continuation of what started in Kenya back in the early 50's. It's a cancer and it has spread to the point that it has overtaken Africa. Enjoy your hunting and exploits in Africa while you can. It will continue to change with time, but not for the better.

They did learn. Its just for the Pres and the various cronies to grab all that they can. Its just the $ame $tory in a different African country that has something to $teal. The mayor of Moscow wife was a billionaire right? These things just work out like that sometimes.

according to the UN FAO

"The dynamics of poverty within Kenya are changing and directly influence the country's agricultural sector. Currently 46 per cent of the population live on less than 1 USD a day, 36.5 per cent are food insecure and 35 per cent of children under five are stunted (chronically malnourished) in Kenya."

"Although smallholder farmers play a critical role in food and nutrition security in Zimbabwe, with their production accounting for the bulk of the country’s food, they themselves often struggle with poverty and food insecurity. In 2012, 76 percent of rural households lived below the poverty line and 32 percent of children under five were stunted as a result of malnutrition"

There are 37 African countries on the UN's list of "Low income food deficit countries". Notably absent are South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, and Angola. These countries all have minerals.

I don't know if y'all noticed, but we(US) are pretty far down that socialist road ourselves. We need to start at home, Africa is as good as gone, no matter how we wish otherwise. We are walking past the graveyard at night, whistleing, while looking over our shoulders!

I hate to disagree with all the “Debby Downers” predicting doom and gloom for Namibia. My sources there all feel this expropriation talk is directed toward foreign landowners, not local (white) Namibians. Especially if this affects the godless Chinese Commies, it could actually be GOOD for hunting in Namibia. Of course it will adversely affect foreign investment in Namibia if the corrupt, incompetent government starts seizing foreign owned assets.

Bud, I agree. This is the Me Too Movement and nothing more. The Angolans came into Namibia to launder their diamond/oil money about a decade ago, but their money dried up when the county converted from the US Dollar to the Kwanza. As soon as that happened, the investment/laundering stopped. You can still see the remnants of that in Windhoek and Swakop - lots of unfinished houses lying fallow. So the government wants to nationalize these properties and holdings - as they should. Nothing will ever happen with these decaying assets.

In regards to the government taking more farmland, they already have been purchasing farms since 1998. The waver system for farmland has put a lot of farms back into the hands of black Namibians. It's been a relatively equitable system. However, there is an alarming brain drain in all the Conservancies and black family owned farms as more young Namibians want to move to the cities to live and work. Be careful what you ask for...

However, the government still is pushing for more black ownership in corporations. But seeing as how the government is broke and there is not a chance the banks are going to lend money to ANYONE, that narrative is pretty much DOA.

The government is still "encouraging" foreign investors to have a national partner, but again, this is difficult considering that so few that have the bucks necessary to play. Most of the movement today is South African workers headed back to SA due to the relative high cost of living in Namibia and with the mine closing down the jobs are also evaporating.

If the number of homes for sale and the declining real estate market is any indication, Namibia is headed for another recession. That's why they are seeking to "borrow" more money (N$10 billion this time) from the Chinese. Hope China isn't too hung up on repayment...

I wonder if South Africa, Namibia etc are following Zimbabwe's example as they consider the outcome a success ????

If so how are they measuring success ??? Failed GDP, failed Currency, starvation of the populace ????

Why would you take this route when there is such a convenient, close to home, example of the follies of this action ?????

Sorry to call a spade a spade, but they are measuring success in terms of blackness. The blacker the country, the more they like it. It's ethnic cleansing (so far) without the blood. Hanging onto the perks of office is nice too.

In Namibia, my understanding is that absentee foreign landowners all lost their farms decades ago. Don't kid yourselves there, they are coming after (white) Namibian citizens at this time. And it's not the derelict assets they are after, after all they are cash poor and don't need any money-pits ... it's the prime real estate they will home in on. And that includes game farms, a fountain of foreign currency.

They don't call each other "Comrade" just for fun.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."
