Steve....remember the older couple that were in camp for a short while with me? She had won the Diana Award and everything was about the "score". The could have given a $hit about the hunt....matter of fact I believe the 'ol boy shat himself when that cow buff charged him and Abie.....threw down his gun and ran. These were some very "high-up" folks at SCI for awhile....and a reason that I prefer to go to Dallas these days. Ask a few of the PH's you hunt with...they'll tell you what they think of the SCI'ers that come over with a tape to see who will jerk them off for their gold medals at the convention.

Merry Christmas, buddy.

I just saw that SCI named a new COO, Kevin Scott. Anybody know anything about him? Curious if he is better or worse than the one before.

Good Hunting,

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

It was both SCI and SCIF.

For all those who have chosen to not be a part of SCI, and that's your choice, others will stay the course and keeping moving forward and help fight the fight against those who would like to take it all away from us. Have a great Holiday Season and Happy New Year.

Larry,
I really do understand and even share in your passion about SCI. I think my best personal description of current affairs would be similar to an analogy between the "old blue blood" Republican Party vs the Tea Party Conservatives.

Like I said in a prior post, If I didn't care, I would just go quietly into the night.

Merry Christmas to you as well,

Steve

It seems SCI is growing despite all the nay sayers. Which is good for all hunters.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!

I just did my booth selection last night for 2012 show in Las Vegas and there are 500 extra booth spaces for those outfitters/companies who have been wanting to come to the show but couldnt get a 'start' because of the size of the Reno Conv Center ... personally I despise LV but an expanded site will be good for all those companies who cant get a seat at the biggest/best hunting show in the world.

The Convention alone does so much good for international hunting and conservation - you only have to see those F&W officials, game biologists, tourism, etc from all those different countries wandering around, talking to the people who are out there 'doing it - living it' every day to see that it will have a positive impact.

Well done SCI - you arent perfect (that's for sure) but you do a pretty damn good job of promoting Hunting=Conservation!!

And Dallas Safari Club members are as pure as the driven snow??? Roll Eyes

I would suggest that every hunting club or group of hunters is always going to have a good mix of folks - both good and bad..

I know exactly how you feel on your issue. Been there a time or two myself with them. Thanks for the Holiday wishes and double to you and yours.

Just received the latest issue of Safari Times and just did a quick look thru and saw all the articles about the activities of the local chapters. This brought to mind one of the main reasons I joined and will continue my membership. Unlike all other "organizations" like RMEF, NRA, Ducks etc. the local chapters keep 70% of their fund raisers vs 0% for the other org. which require sending the funds to them and then petitioning them for funds to do local projects. I wonder why this is the case - could it be the large amount of funds raised directly by SCI and their Show etc.

Die Du Jagter:

I was one of the founding members years ago of a Tucson chapter of one of the big organizations you mentioned.

We got virtually no help from its headquarters, except for the rep who showed up at our first organizational meeting and at the dinner to personally collect the money we raised that night.

The next year, after our second banquet, without any previous warning or correspondence, our founding group was notified that a new group of volunteers had been appointed to host the next fundraiser.

We apparently weren't raising as much money as the organization thought we should have for a city the size of Tucson.

The organization does great work in preserving and improving habitat for its chosen species, but a few years after the incident I've described it would not lend its name to hunting groups opposed to an anti-hunting ballot issue in our state.

It is not all of the national organizations that keep all of the money that local chapters earn. Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever local chapters keep all of the money that they earn.

My understanding at least for Pheasants and probably Quail require the chapters buy all of their auction items from them at high cost so it is hard for them to make monies at the banquets. This is what I have heard no first hand knowledge.

No they are not required to buy banquet packages from National. Total cost of the banquet packages if they chose to buy it, has never exceeded much over $1,800. Not likely to make or break any chapter banquet considering the amount of money bid for these high quality items. Some chapters are much better at designing their banquet programs to make money than others and some make a greater effort at getting local donations.

I have been to a pheasant banquet locally and the stuff they had for auction was of very poor quality. If memory serves me correct very few bids over 2 or 3 hundered on any item.
