There were comments on the forum a couple of years ago about "flakes of silica" coming out of trophies and some fixed "bad salt" as the culprit. Does anyone remember this thread and a means to search for it? I have tried several searches with no success. Many thanks. Kudude | ||

The problem of reusing "old salt" (salt that has been previously used) still exists. Make sure your PH uses new salt. Table salt (non iodized) should be used, not rock salt. Best way to prevent your trophies from ruining is to use only a saltwater brine (salt is dissolved in hot to warm water until it will no longer dissolve). When cooled, a bacteriacide is added. You can get this from your Taxidermist before you go. "Brined" capes and skins shouldn't have any slippage.
