Like a lot of us on this site I dreamed of Africa as a young boy. Then, as a pipefitter from Denver, Colorado, I decided that hunting Africa was out of my reach. In the late 90's I discovered that a person could do a plains game hunt in South Africa fairly reasonably. So, I decided to go on a "once in a lifetime" trip to South Africa in 2000.While on that trip thou I contracted an incurable disease. One that many of us on this website are afflicted with. The only remedy is to return to Africa. I try to go back every year now if I can.

I am retired now, but in order to help support my addiction I work in a small gun shop in Windsor Colorado, as an African hunting consultant. The other day a costumer was looking at a photo album I have in the shop. He asked me. "Are you rich?" After pausing for a second my responce was this. If living the dreams of a 14 year old boy has any value. If countless experiances, and a lifetime of memorys, numberous aquaintances, many who have become good friends have any value. Then I am a very wealthy man.

The Lord has truly blessed me.

I have the privilege of hunting Whitetail in SW Virginia and one evening I was sharing pictures of some of my African animals and this boy in camp said "Are you rich" to which I replied. Yes, because I get to share this camp with your grandfather and many other friends here. Last year I went down and served as camp cook, just had the gun on the porch just in case a suicidal buck walked by.

I ive been asked the same question a few times. I tell them no! I spent all my money in Africa, B.C. and other hunting destinations.

I do feel blessed to have been on the great adventures ive took part in. Planning more as we speak.

I have walked in the foot prints of the elephant, listened to lion roar and met the buffalo on his turf. I shall never be the same.

A wealth of experiences, a wealth of friends and a man and his family's health are the greatest wealth of all. Well stated Bob! I look forward to sharing a camp with a man with similar philosophies.

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

It's a pleasure reading this post and others that show us as ONE. Please help Stu openly, or discretely, and let's restore our bond as hunters and friends. I've met about a handful of y'all (a great lot at that), but let's get together as we fight the same fight. It doesn't matter how many wives, charges, BKs, books, or whatever, we are all brothers (sisters) bonded by a common interest. Do not forget that.

Besides the important relationships in my life, I've only ever considered memories a currency with any value, and Africa provides those in spades. When anyone asks me why I collect trophies I tell them that I don't. I collect memories. The trophies just make them more vivid!
