Tariffs are not applicable to sport hunted trophies.

Friend of mine told me, bringing trophies to Europe, you get nailed on VAT tax for the hunt if you are bringing them back
Basically Gov agency estimates cost and nail you on it, typically from 10 to 23% depends on country

Never been lost, just confused here and there for month or two

Never heard of that. You pay VAT on work cost for taxidermy not the hunt.

If you just take the skins and make them in your homw country it will be very little cost except shipping

That is True for some european countries, for example Spain... because of that many Spaniards use Germany as entering point for their trophies...

Import Duty is levied on the declared/insured value (CIF) and VAT is payable on that amount.

If the Spanish Authorities base their calculations on the cost of the hunt they are in a world of their own as it is nonsensical.

What if a bunch of trophies were purchased from a taxidermist seeing it is possible to do so without having hunted the animal?

Flew in some trophies from SA to Germany last year. Straight 20 % duty / import tax on the taxidermy invoice and if none available or if the Zollamt (tax authority) considers it `understated` then they will estimate the cost and charge based on their estimate, which you can challenge. Very straight forward.

The cost of the hunt is not relevant to the tax. Imagine you bring back a trinket from a vacation and they would base the tax 20 % (only if over Euro 200,- total values) on the cost of Euro 10.000,- vacation!! Nope the hunt cost is irrelevant its the value of the taxidermy work that is VAT`ed.

Seems like some countries have insatiable appetite for other people money via tax in any form
