Thor was around my place this morning sorting out some trophies. I thought some would be interested in a couple of monstrous Roan taken recently at Munyamadzi in the Luangwa. The girth and length (the longest being over 29 inches) is exceptional and just proves that wildlife populations are flourishing under private hands.

Game Ranches in Zambia are a misnomer and these pristine lands are simply private, unfenced (mandatory) and generally very remote. Game farms are fenced. Munyamadzi is bordered by a vast GMA across the river and simply bush on either side of its so called boundaries.

The lower Luangwa can boast some of the highest concentrations of Southern Roan on the continent and therefore the trophy quality is excellent.

It is without doubt on of Africa's hidden gems.

I've got a date with a roan in western Tanzania next year, but if that doesn't work out, I'd love to talk to you if you are still willing given my indiscretion.
