Contract signed and mailed, now the count down starts 95 days. On license - Royal antelope, Maxwells Duiker, Black Duiker, Harnessed Bushbuck, Genet, Palm civit, Brushtailed Porcupine, Giant pouched rat and birds. Not your typical hunt. If sucesssful I guess we will have roasted rat one evening - waste not want not. Big Grin

Having grown up in NYC, I've seen enough rats to last me two lifetimes.

Having eaten in Chinese restaurants, I've probably eaten enough rats to last me two lifetimes. Eeker

Bring some chile peppers and satay sauce. Big Grin

I don't know about a change of pace as Leopard and Lion are good eating and I would hope these rats would be good also. Their diet would be a bit different than their city cousins, but if they are living in the rubber plantations they may be a bit chewy. Big Grin

The outfitter is Steve Korbine Safaris.

DOJ,

Is this a shotgun hunt, or does Ghana permit importation of rifles?

George,

That rat is called a "Grasscutter" in the local lingo and it is a favorite of the bushmeat trade. Double yummy!

Sound like a cool hunt... I look forward to a hunt report when you return and your perspective on Ghana as a hunting destination.

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

The hunt is basically a shot gun hunt, no weapons allowed to be brought in by the hunter. Steve has the shotguns in camp and I think he is working on getting a rifle or two into country also. The largest game animial is the Bushbuck which can be taken with a 12 ga buck. Mike not so funny as I took my Sharpes Grysbok with my 416 Taylor, besides I haven't owned my 470 long enough for it to get any cobwebs let alone rust! Big Grin

Sounds like a cool hunt. Good luck. I had no idea that that country was open to hunting. I wrote a final paper in college about Ghana's former president; Flight Lt. Jerry John Rawlings..interesting guy to say the least and an interesting country.

Look forward to your report.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.
