We have finished for the day. Miscellaneous observations:

1- There are a hell of a lot of people for a first day.

2- Many of the hotels are closer to the center than convention center was to our room in Mandalay.

3- Everything is in one room.

4- check in was quick and painless .

5-lots of benches to sit on at the end of aisles.

6-no food court. No large sitting areas around the food court .

7- plenty of homeless to annoy us. This is on the streets.

It was fun.

We arrived about 4:00 and just had time to get badges, visited with several friends/exhibitors while trying to leave convention center. Every one of them said they have never seen a busier first day. Membership guy said they were covered up most of the day selling “new” memberships, that is a good thing. Looking forward to seeing exhibitor (and other) friends tomorrow, and see how busy the gall is. Probably a very good idea to hold the convention in Nashville.

I’ll make another positive observation.

The floors at DSC as well as previous SCI shows just wore my legs the hell out. The floors today bothered me a lot less. Must be the padding .

Thank you Larry for your observations. Some of us already have travel & hunting plans and have skipped the big party for this year. But I tell you MANY of us appreciate friends posting their views of what is taking place.

Larry, I’m confused, you said no food court, then said no large sitting areas around the food court.
My wife will go nuts if she can’t buy something to eat inside.
Do they sell food or not?

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

There are numerous food options around the outer perimeter for you as well as drinks etc…
Seating…no…have to go outside the main hall area and there is seating.my wife and I simply stood and ate a sandwich (as did most people)
As noted I saw a few benches but very few and they were taken

They do not have a food court nor the large seating areas. There are a few places that sell food. Nothing like DSC nor prior SCI events. My point was that the Nashville center has a lack of seating compared to other events .

It is busy. Very busy. Everyone I talk to seems thrilled. Things are going quite well for most.

No major complaints. Universally , the exhibitors were impressed by the difference in check in at Nashville versus Vegas.

The show continues to be busy. Incredibly busy.

Whoever had the idea that moving the show to major population centers would result in more attendees had it exactly right. One thing that has caught my attention is the number of Amish in attendance . Prior to this show, I have never seen an Amish. I am seeing dozens of them daily .

One interesting note is a donated hunt at Rainy Pass Lodge in Alaska . Cole Hauser(Rip from Yellowstone) will also go. I believe it sold for $140,000.

It seems to me that is less equipment at this show that at DSC.

It has been a blast. Can’t wait to see Lynyrd Skynyrd tonight .

We went Wed-Thurs and thought it was great. Nashville is awesome and the people have been awesome.
Real happy with the change from Reno / Vegas.
Thursday was a lot busier , I knew Friday Saturday would be hoppin. The vendors I talked to were very happy. SCI nailed it as far as I’m concerned. I’m sure there’s an influx of younger and new members.

The works is bigger than Texas and even Africa. I have been begging DSC or SCI to come East ever since I got here. That is the only way to grow. Glad they moved East. Glad it paid off.

One thing that lined up well is National Wild Turkey Federation was here last week.

There have been minor protest. Someone rented one of the big electric flip billboards coming into Nashville with pictures of Bear stating Not Your Trophy.

Last time I went to DSC I met more anti-hunters.

Very smart move on the part of SCI, I believe the final “real” attendance number will be surprising. I was told that they ran out of lanyards for name badges yesterday, if true that is a good problem to have. I visited with a local USFWS inspector this morning as he was walking and checking, he said that there are over 5 million hunters within a 4 hour drive of Nashville, what a mostly untapped resource! As stated above, lots and lots of younger adults roaming the show, good to see that. Exhibitor friends say they are doing very, very well. Floor is crowded this morning, too.

We enjoyed the show. Not many chairs were set up on Thursday for people to take a break. On Friday we noticed they set up many more. Decent food at reasonable price for this type of venue. Even $8.50 for a beer wasn't too bad.
It was the first time for the wife and she absolutely loved it. Parking was close. Win win on all fronts for us.

They did run out of lanyards and bags. My wife wanted a bag.

Booked a return trip to Austria with my first outfitter and got Grace to take care of firearms travel.

Wife would not let me buy her a fur. She did let me buy her a pair of Schnee.

My wife and I did just Friday. It was a great show, and Nashville is a fun town.

Everyone that we talked with was having a good show.

Booked elephant for 2025 in Zim. Wife picked up some Forloh down pieces.

Unfortunately, this morning we found that some lowlife tried to break into my vehicle and shattered the outer glass on the passenger window. It's double safety glass, so annoying to look through driving home, but still in place. I get to learn how to install a window on a Jeep GC. Yay, a new skill.

I talked to a few Austrian outfitters, who did you book with? Just nice to have a reference.

Perhaps the most interesting thing to me was the dinner the last night . I ended up sitting next to a congressman. I had the opportunity to talk to him for over an hour on matters that concern me.

Move in and move out needs addressing.

Some of the vendors waited up to 9 hrs to get up to the docks Monday and Tuesday.
We were more fortunate on move in, although last night after having checked in and the dog house at 3:11, we abandoned the idea of waiting for a dock.
We elected to leave the yard at 7p and to try any other method to get out.

We then loaded out down the escalator to Sixth street.
However in doing so,we needed to abandon our 8 ft tables
and carpet to whomever wanted to take them home.

The phone call to come to the doghouse for our dock pass to load out finally came at 9:45.

The myth that exhibitor services told us of
“first in line would be first out”, was inexcusable .

After more than 30 years of setup and teat down at these and other conventions,
this was the worst in this respect.

We had a great trip to Nashville this week. It was my wife’s first convention and our first trip to Nashville. We’re looking forward to returning next year and planning to make a week of it. We were able to connect with a few outfitters we’re booked with this year and next, and explore a few for prospective 2025 hunts. Our chapter had a pretty decent turnout, which made it a little cumbersome to try to do things together. All in all, I think this was a way better city for the convention than Vegas. My only regret is that we flew in Thursday rather than earlier.
