In one of the segments you do there is a very large bull elephant behind you. Im curious to what you etimate the wieght at.

Actually you might hold off for a little while and see what everyone elses guess is.

I dont know alot about judging them but my initial gut feeling was 87 & 89 pounds.

I have walked in the foot prints of the elephant, listened to lion roar and met the buffalo on his turf. I shall never be the same.

Thunder Head- 87+89 lbs. I wish I could judge ivory like that! i have often joked with Phs that say to a client that that is 42 or 54 etc. How do you judge a nerve you cannot see? I will always say its +-45 etc but you need to give you ph 5 lbs each way for the nerve. To get it bang on is poor luck!

Hey Buzz,

Once again, real experience and knowledge nails it. No one, no matter their level of experience with Ele, can account for the unseen nerve inside the tusk. It may be long and heavy or short and light and there is simply no way to know until after the ivory is out of the skull and the nerve can be removed. A 10 pound range may be about right.

My own observation is that if the PH has limited Ele experience he will tend to over-estimate the tusk weight, whereas a very experienced Ele PH will often estimate slightly on the light side.
