Aaron NeilsonGuys - I have a preliminary copy of it already, but Dr. White is waiting to publish it, until she feels its more complete.
The preliminary copy has 47 separate lion tooth/DNA samples, plus photos of each one. Very interesting to see the difference from the Luangwa Lions vs the Kafue lions!! Plus to see what an excellent job the Zambian Professional hunters are doing at harvesting mature lions. Exactly 85% of the 47 lions, are aged at 5 yrs or older!!
I am working on a big article/facts/opinion paper regarding lions. I will be posting it soon, and it expounds on Zambia a bit more, plus other things as well.

It might keep you interested till the ZAMBIA SPECIFIC book is published !

Peter & others - Remember one thing as it pertain to this "book". Outside the Serengeti Eco-system, its pretty WORTHLESS!! So unless they start letting us hunt the Serengeti, we'll have to rely on "REGIONAL" guides, such as the one being worked on by Dr. White. Thus the reason its called a "Regional guide to Zambian lions", as it pertains only to Zambia.

Even if it isn't the Lord's feline bible I'd still say it's pretty helpful for someone that has no idea about lions.

BwanamichThe principles of age estimation it covers can be applied to most regions, not only the Serengeti ecosystem.
It can be applied to Northern Tanzania (Maasailand ecosystem), Western Tanzania (Kigosi/Myuwozi/Malagarasi ecosystems), Central Tanzania (Ruaha/Rungwa/Usangu ecosystem), South-Western Tz (Rukwa/Chunya ecosystem)and even many parts of the Southern region (Selous/Niassa ecosystem).

Bwana - Absolutely disagree! Dr. White's REGIONAL guide in Zambia, shows very distinctive, visual, differences in the lions between the Luangwa Valley vs the Kafue, for example.
The same will hold true from region to region in TZ, and especially as you cross into other countries, etc.

Agree. There are some areas that only produce small spotty mane less cats. Other characteristics are big floppy paws and over sized ears. It is very difficult for some to distinguish this variety from your average Lion cub.

I won't comment on Zambia but with TZ regions, I am quite convinced that criteria applies consistantly. Agree to disagree if you want, no problem.
