I really enjoyed it. Spiral horns are excellent. I would say a combination of eland and bushbuck, but distinct. Probably unique because of what it eats.

Yeah like all other meat animals shoot a young small one, they will be much tenderer. you wouldn't want to butcher an old bull if you want a good steak, get a young tender yearling. While I shot three in the Sudan, I don't recall having any of it to eat. I guess if I didn't have it, it never made a big impression one way or another

I found the Bongo to be extremely tasty. Let me temper that remark with the fact that the cooking in CAWA's camps was extraordinary. All the meals were prepared with care and skill. There were no "bad" meals. Steve Formerly "Nganga"

Always found the spiral horns to be tough. No matter how long you boil them they just don't get tender. The back straps are a different story altogether. ______________________ DRSS ______________________ Hunt Reports 2015 His & Her Leopards with Derek Littleton of Luwire Safaris - http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/2971090112 2015 Trophy Bull Elephant with CMS http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/1651069012 DIY Brooks Range Sheep Hunt 2013 - http://forums.accuratereloadin...901038191#9901038191 Zambia June/July 2012 with Andrew Baldry - Royal Kafue http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/7971064771 Zambia Sept 2010- Muchinga Safaris http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/4211096141 Namibia Sept 2010 - ARUB Safaris http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/6781076141

Always the comedian!! They (CAWA) served us Bongo, sliced very thin, raw with some type of a vinaigrette dressing on it. I remember it was exquisite. The better game meat was the Red River Hog. By far the best meat I've ever eaten. Domestic, wild, whatever. It was tender like a flakey fish and tasted like veal. Formerly "Nganga"

If you go with the pygmies, you won't get any of it. This is their prime source of protein other than gorillas and duikers.

Any meat the way of Tatar/Mongol steak will make it very tender. Just put it under your saddle/truck seat and ride on it for couple of day. Guaranteed tenderness... i am guessing it will end up like the 30 or so 350" class bull elk he killed on public land in Idaho while meat hunting. no horns( antlers) and no pictures but a lot of good eating......i know if i shot a bongo that's what i would do- just eat it and go on. Can someone please tell me the towing capacity of a Lamborghini Veneno Roadster? I may pick one up next year, but want to make sure it will be able to handle my 18' flatbed with three quads and a side-by-side. Practicality is everything to me. ____________________________________________ "Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life." good question In 2006 we shot in CAR leopards, bongo, duikers, buffalo, eland, bush pigs and baboons. Now I just remember that our french educated cook never provided bongo meat. Broiled baboon (as monitor lizard) just to sympathise with the helpers. We ate leopard as chicken were scarce, and mostly excellent eland and bush pig meat. Seems that bongo (and buffalo) weren't tasty enough for table service to frenchmen?????? Happened also to eat duiker meat (as baboon's) in the remote bush camp. Bongo steaks on the grill, most excellent. Red River hog, to die for. Oribi and duiker, meh. Savannah buffalo, not bad. Not as good as the Cape buff I had in Zim., but I don't know if that could be reproduced it was heavenly. LD Eland, as all Eland, excellent. Roan, not bad cooked, wasn't into the tartar. Can't remember if we had any of the Western Hartebeest, Harnessed Bushbuck or Giant Forest hog. Do you remember Steve?

Nope, my recollection is the same as yours. The Bongo and RRH were arguably the finest meat I've eaten. I do however remember, you being a bit shy of the raw meat. What could possibly go wrong, heck its CAR! Take care!! Steve Formerly "Nganga"
